Hello EnglishSponge. A visit to Goring is highly rewarding and offers a truly soothing experience. It is a charming village, and visiting the church is quite interesting, though it did raise a few questions in my mind regarding the large-beaked golden eagle. In the Norman village of Sainte-Mère-Église, there is a golden eagle resembling the one in Goring, but it unfortunately evokes a dark period in French history: the German occupation by the Third Reich between 1940 and 1945. I found myself wondering: what does this golden eagle symbolize for the village of Goring?
