W or L Video?😅🎉

Alternate title: Dan having an 8 minute 27 second panic attack because the map has been capping.

4:48  it's simple, the earth is round and the map is flat

They actualy dont lie you just cant take a country from a round map put it on a square one and it will stay the same

The reason countries are distorted is due to the Mercator projection nobody’s lying

Dan: and were gonna do this to every country!
Dan: then proceeds to only do like 10 countries

The map doesn't neccesarily lie, it's just that to show a spherical world, the Earth, on a rectangular map, the countries near the equator need to look super small, and the countries furthest from the equator has to look super big, making some countries appear way bigger or way smaller than they actually are.

You can fit the entire dwarf planet Pluto into Australia so I mean…

It is not accutually lying because if you move it around the map it will look bigger/smaller because you are moving it to a curved space on the earth

there is a way to make a completely accurate map on a rectangular screen but we have to distort the country sizes to make a proper rectangle shape or if we tried to make a map with accurate sizes the map shape would be like if you took a kitkat and bended it without breaking it edit: MAMA IM FAMOUS

Dan: Australia is bigger than Europe
Me: are you trying to make me me mad

The US is around 9.8 million square kilometers, where Australia is only 7.7 million square kilometers

They make some countries on the map smaller to fit countries on the map so people know where about the country is

The reason the world map lies is bcz the earth is round (obviously), and it is not possible to show a round object on something flat without some form of distortion. And on the world map you were using, the form of distortion is that land masses are bigger towards the poles and smaller towards the equator.

Australia is not really even close to the size of the the United States of America.

How is Australia bigger than europe

The reason map makers make maps look like how they are is to make a spherical world on a flat map, you have to mak everything bigger at the top and bottom way bigger than they actually are.

I don't think Dan knows the difference between a map and a globe... Globes don't lie, maps do.

Bro is teaching us way to much geography
