The man that they purchase the spindle wood from is my Grandfather - John. P. O' Reilly of Gortnacleigh - what a treat to see him again on a technology that would no doubt have amazed him!

Beautiful simplicity, when life was not how much money you could make but how satisfied the customer was....how times have changed.

I had tears in my eyes when the table and chairs were finished and displayed. Truly they were magnificent Crafts men. May they rest in Peace.

Sadly the brothers have all passed away now . The apprentice moved to London so the business has sadly finished but the brothers outstanding craftsmanship will be around for centuries .

I'm tired of saying this but I'll say it again, in all,our busy lives today what satisfaction do any of us get out of life compared to these men. Absolute craftsmen. Well done sirs.

Whilst I was a French polisher in Liverpool in the 1990/2000s I worked with 2 brothers Charlie and Raphael. Both were chair makers/ cabinet makers. They were still working in their 90s. The knowledge and skills never got passed on. Their children were all professionals and never wanted to learn their trade. Charlie passed away when he was about 96 and Raph followed a few years later. I think he was 93. I will never forget them. I have a beautiful walnut spirit level that Raph kindly gave to me.

Even designed and printed their own letter head - just amazing, it's not even just the skills and knowledge that are being lost it's the mind set that one can make what one needs. The convenience of ordering online or going to Office Depot to get letterheads and stationary, is progress but how many of us think "I could make that if I wanted".

It would be wonderful if this film last the 200 plus years the furniture will so whoever owns it then can see the craftsmanship that went into it.

Take me back to those days when timber and machinery was a fraction of the cost of today, that really allowed the master to apply his trade

The content of these films is fantastic to watch in times like this but the best part is the voices of these narrators, all of them.

The local PBS station used to run this series as filler when I was a young man.. I found them all fascinating. Glad to see them here.

How can one not be touched by these lovely old-school craftsmen, who put all their love into their work. The respect for tradition kept up quality and durability. The Bankers have killed that tradition. We, the People, should have resisted instead of buying cheap poor imports. Too late. God bless Ireland.
