So glad I was there 23 years ago. Met less than 10  tourists in 2 months. Surfed most spots alone and only spend 400euros over 2 months incl food, beachfront hotels and travel. No smartphones,  no influencers and alot of adventures using maps

The unfortunate side that you never see as a tourist is how vendors outright discriminate and refuse to accept their own locals into venues. I say this based on own experience, not here say.
It’s possibly the only country I’ve come across that discriminates their own kind.
This is the dark side you don’t see.

I'm certain I saw you guys at Hiriketiya while you were walking toward the beach on Hiriketiya Road.
I was trying to park the car and say hi, but the narrow roads made it impossible.
I ended up parking near Isle of Gelato and looked for you, but you disappeared like ghosts.
I'm a coffee guy, and you guys are the reason I drove from Matara to Malkoha at Hiriketiya every day for my morning coffee and a walk on the beach.

During our family vacation in Sri Lanka this year (April 2026), I followed your recommendations and covered Ahangama, Mirissa, Weligama, Dikwella/Hiriketiya, and Ella (Everything other than homestay)
I'm a native Sri Lankan, but I follow you guys and a few other North American couple vloggers for recommendations so I don't have to do any research myself.

I know it must be tough filming while trying to enjoy the moment, then editing and uploading during the trip. But families like ours (the lazy ones... lol) use those recommendations and save so much planning time.
Really appreciate you sharing it all!!
