Close enough. Welcome back, Mythbusters.

He is an art professor, there is no way he thought that venture was a waste of time. If I were an art professor, I guarantee I'd be all over wacky cooking experiments.

I appreciate the "Do Not Attempt" warning. I was planning on cooking chicken using lava this weekend.

Fun Fact: In Iceland, there's a traditional bread that's baked by being buried underground in a hot spring area, allowing the natural heat from I'm pretty sure a volcano to bake it.

There's a category of people who look at lava and can't help thinking what it tastes like.
Thanks for saving their lives.

92-year-old facility still makes their lava the old-fashioned way

Crazy how this all spawned from some players 10+ years ago who discovered an automated chicken cooking farm system involving lava. Imagine if the mario movie had a song about backwards long jumping

155-year-old NY university still makes their lava the old fashioned way

Fun fact: In Hawaii the natives actually do use lava as a form of natural cooking. Rather than using charcoal, coal, or gas they use a method of slow cooking over high heat. The gases of the lava and minerals of the volcanic soil provide a delicious smoky flavor that’s said to add taste and texture to the food.

An art teacher with a massive lava making machine definitely passes the cool test

love the idea that mixing a bunch of mildly hot sauces together would somehow result in a super-spicy sauce and not just another mild hot sauce

The reason why the lava is just beading off the chicken is because its so hot its immediately vaporizing the moisture on the surface of the chicken, causing a layer of steam separating the lava from directly touching the chicken

Rotisserie chicken over a lava stream.
Not in the lava.

But this scratches the mythbusters itch somehow

I hope you enjoyed your time in Syracuse! Glad we could help in your lava chicken conquest!

You know. I used to sleep like a baby in the knowledge that if I was ever submerged in lava, I would die almost instantly; but now, I'm not so sure. Now I think you just slowly broil in a rock prison of excruciating pain until your brain finally runs out of oxygen and you pass out. Cooking is fun!

The "SALT ONLY" bucket filled with water 😭

The thin lava streams jumping off the chicken due to Leidenfrost effect triggered my flight response.

8:29 Babish: pours lava over chicken
Also Babish: it’s like it’s encased in rock or something 😂😂😂

Funny how the thumbnail on the CrunchLabs video released the same day as this one hints at cooking a turkey/chicken with lava. But Babbish actually committed to the idea but still brought us proper cooking content with a meal I want. Mark ended up only have a pizza party 💀
