“Evil cannot create, only soft-reboot.” - J. R. R. Tolkien

Galadriel has done a lot of horrific things during the season, but that three second clip of her walking past a burning man and offering no help sums up her entire character.

So, Galadriel, in her quest for vengeance, created the very evil she swore to destroy. And then, after having this fact revealed to her, did nothing to change it.
For fuck's sake.

I can't believe how hard they Jake Skywalkered Galadriel in this show. To make her the cause of Sauron's actions in the third age by shoving him off the path of redemption... Christ.

Rags- At least orcs will stab you in the front.

He has a nack for making that definitive line of the podcast. He had it in the rise of Skywalker video "If you can do all this as a force ghost. What's the point of being alive"

Sauron being a bitter man denied his dreams, and scorned by Galadriel, makes me Feel Seen and properly represented.

In the film trilogy, Galadriel's defining trait is her piercing insight. While Celeborn greets the fellowship formally, Galadriel communicates privately with Frodo -- she goes immediately to the heart of the matter, namely the ringbearer's burden. She warns Frodo upfront of what he already suspects -- Boromir will succumb and try to take the ring. She later shows him upfront what would happen if he fails, no punches pulled, and even her own temptation by the ring is her essentially saying "let's get this over with" and just going for it -- and coming through having passed the test. Galadriel is ethereal wisdom and beauty, but her character is all about getting straight to the point, to the heart of the matter, with piercing, uncompromising insight. This show... they've got the "uncompromising" part, but seem to have missed the insight and unerring focus on what matters.

You know something? Now whenever I watch Fellowship and get to the part where Galadriel almost takes the ring from Frodo, it will no longer be a sobering reminder of the temptation of the ring, that even a pure and noble elf queen could fall under its sway. Now it's her suddenly reverting to type, because this show has convinced me that Galadriel is unironically more evil than Sauron.

Concerning Harfoots, by Bilbus Bungelton:
"Harfoots have been living and "farming" other Harfoots across Middle Earth for many hundreds of years, quite content to ignore and be ignored by the world of the Big Folk.  Middle Earth being, after all, full of strange creatures beyond count. Harfoots must seem of little importance, being neither renowned as great humanitarians, nor counted amongst the very wise.
"In fact, it has been remarked by some that Harfoots only real passion is for food.  A rather unfair observation as we have also developed a keen interest in the crunching of bones and the stealing of wheels. But where our hearts truly lie is in pain, misery, and good tilled earth fertilized by the remains of our forebears. For all Harfoots share a love of all things that you can boil, mash and stick in a stew. And yes, no doubt to others, our ways seem quaint but today of all days, it is brought home to me it is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life."
(The author of this account was later found half eaten by Sadcock Burrows, the village elder)

Jackson had the perfect approach to adapting Tolkien (or any fantasy, IMO) in that he told his crew to look at it as if it was a historical account and that they were lucky enough to have artifacts to replicate and be able to shoot in the locations where these places once were.

37:31 The best plot-twist is if magic man turned out to be Saruman and his experience with the harfoots is what turned him to evil. It would make his vengeance on the hobbits justified.

"is your duty to your son or to numenor?"

If this was really based on Tolkiens work then his response would be something like

"Duty to my son is a duty to numenor"

... but no modern day Hollywood writer could handle writing men as important

About the eruption sparing the named characters: There was a gag in Order Of The Stick (a long-running webcomic) where a couple mortally wounded random soldiers are talking to each other in the aftermath of a big battle. They tell each other their names right as they think they're going to die, after which they both immediately start to feel better and soon get up and walk away, eventually becoming somewhat major characters in the main plot. It's lampshading the narrative trope that a character basically gets a second health bar as soon as the audience knows their name.

Gandalf didn't destroy the witches with the power of light, the sheer cringe of him shouting "I'M GOOD" just blasted them to pieces.

"He's got lots of powers in the Lore, he can shapeshift, he can turn into Werwolves and Vampires, i don't think he's got some sort or mind-" Rags:"How many Werwolves?"

20:55 I think Mauler is confusing Celeborn and Círdan.

Círdan, Gil Galad and Galadriel are the original Eldair Ringbearers.

Círdan was gifted the red ring (fire) by Gil Galad but recognises Gandalf as a force for good and loans him the ring of fire whose power is to inspire resistance to tyranny. Meanwhile he waits for him at the Grey Havens.

Gil Galad is slain at Baradur and Elrond takes his blue ring (air) before he dies.

Of the three original ringbearers, only Galadriel remains with her white ring (water) that conceals things from evil that she used to protect and sustain Loth Lórien.

The pyroclastic flow is a Lovecraftian enigma. Hot enough to set wooden buildings ablaze, powerful enough to level a town and knock everyone to the ground, but when it hits people at full force straight in the face it either leaves them with horrific burns (as expected) or gives them a light shove and an ash dusting.

I just realised something. Women are always right. The sea is always right. Therefore, the sea is a woman!

"If elrond told me the sky was blue, I would fucking check!" 🤣😂 there's some real gems in this one!
