Originally published in 1934 under the title "Know Yourself Through the Four Temperaments," this book presents an approach to the idea of the four temperaments stemming from the writings of the ancient Greeks, in particular, Plato's oldest contemporary, the Father of Medicine, Hippocrates (469-399 BC), and the Prince of Physicians, Galen (130-200 AD). The latter was strongly influenced in his study of psychology by the philosopher Aristotle (384-322 BC).
Understanding temperament is a guide, a compass for ourselves that can, and should, be used for the maturation of one's own personality, one's own life.
How can we sanctify ourselves if we do not know ourselves? Self-knowledge is an essential key to mastering the Science of the Saints. Philosophers describe four basic temperaments, and here Fr. Hock masterfully addresses the temperaments and spiritual challenges of someone and how to apply the appropriate remedies.
This book was written for the average layperson, for all those who They wish to know themselves. Self-knowledge is a great gift without which one cannot form a solid, mature, and strong character or cooperate adequately with grace."
