9:10 because of Project 2009 i learned that both those and thesquare lights from earlier are actually leftover early design experiments for the chamber lighting that align more with portal 1's light holes

a 12 angry tests remaster would be pretty cool, just fixing the small errors and dusting it off

Nice video, I agree that copying and pasting whole sections of your level design from the game you're modding is bad for both self improvement and the end result. That said, a lot of the complaints here come down to nitpicking over following Valve's official "style guide" like it's a rule book even when visual elements otherwise fit the scene.

I'm glad you at least acknowledged multiple times that these were really granular nitpicks, but your greater points about the pacing, macro level design, and composition of the 3D space were a lot more interesting to me. Composition is something I pay a lot of attention to in my own mods, and I think it's a worthwhile addition to critique videos because it's A. surprisingly important and B. not something the average spectator thinks about.

I hope you do more of these, I love listening to people talk about mod design (even when I disagree with some of it lol)

Thank you for analysis. I'm currently trying to make my first hammer map that I'll publish in p2ce. This video helped me with what I should improve on. Watching this I realised that my lighting is bad, and the chambers are too square-ish.

29:33 I beat the puzzle without using the portal surface in that room - instead I used the funnel to put blue gel right next to the platform that the exit is on top of. Maybe that's the unintended way, but still, it's beatable without using the surface in the observation room.

To me, this modpack feels like a free DLC that expands game and Aperture Science. I like this!

i think a cool map series to review would be the Penrose maps! first 3 entries made by Stratos, with following ones made by Mesos, always liked the atmosphere they had and the cool new puzzle elements they implement (even if i never really figured them out after i first found the series.. 😅)
another cool map series that i think would be neat to review would be Wheatley's Unscientific Tests! has a bunch going on with it with like it being like an Extreme version of the wheatley courses in Portal 2, and it pulling a bunch of cool map tricks!
ALSO, really like this type of video! hope to see more :DD

I think you should an analysis about Wheatley’s Unscientific Tests. They all look stunning but I’m very conflicted on the difficulty of the maps and often times it has great ideas but the executions feel tedious. I’d love to see what you think given your experience with Portal 2 level design.

been making and playing workshop stuff for portal 2 off and on since 2011 and somehow i never noticed just how many chunks of detailing in 12AT were ripped directly out of the campaign beyond the prefabs provided in hammer already. learn something new every day!
