Imagine you can talk about Slayyyter with your therapist, amazing.

i love how thoughtful you were in this reaction!! most people just hear the big dance production music and write it off as such (most dance music having non-thoughtful lyrics and just designed for the purpose OF dancing). you gave me a better understanding and appreciation of an album i already loved, so thank you for that. always excited for one of your album reactions (just waiting on superache and kid krow by conan gray!!)

OMGG IVE BEEN WAITING FPR THISS

Hey Viki! I just wanted to say I really appreciate and admire the videos you make, much like this one. As someone in college majoring in Psychology and English and being a writer as well, the way you disect both the meaning with the lyrics and how that intertwines with the production is so cool. I always find myself analyzing lyrics and production of music when i listen to anything new and it's great to have someone with your knowledge, experience, and just general love for music speak so much to those meanings and intentional touches to the music. Thank you for another impeccable analysis/reaction!

You balance your appreciation for the screaming/dancing so well with analysis of the incredible depth to the lyrics. I see “I’ll end it in the morning” as the first foreshadowing of the theme of death present throughout - whether the death of the relationship, her hardcore party phase, or literally her life. I also think her release of ambition to hit it big and likely give up trying to be a pop star after this album is the release that you talk with Prayer. She had to forget herself to find this incredible project within her

This album has one of the most deeply vulnerable endings I’ve ever heard. And it never fails to make me emotional. She’s currently in the process of writing an inverse of this album called “wor$t man in america” actually! I highly recommend you listen to her single “brand new chanel$” which is the inverse of “beat up chanel$”

re: the team working cohesively together- she sang with the vocal effects so she could hear what she would sound like instead of doing it all in post. she's a genius.

AOTYYYYYYYYY. 🎉 This album means so much to me as a fellow depression girlie and retired party girl.

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO

I retired from performing in drag a few years ago after wanting to drink (and more) less to get my shit together. St. Loser is the first song that makes me want to get back on the stages of gay clubs just to perform that as a more healed version of myself. ❤

omg I am so glad you reacted to this and I wholeheartedly believe that the entire album is so much deeper than most people give it credit for! The production and the vocals are given so much praise (rightfully so ofc), but I'd say that the writing is just as good and dare I say the most impressive aspect of the album to me because of how straightforward and "simple" (for a lack of a better word) it seems initially. It's a concept album through and through and for a person to fully understand the story you simply have to listen to the whole thing and then listen to it again once you realize how dark the narrative becomes by the end.

The imagery of death and desperation has been present since the beggining of the the album and slowly gets more and more blunt and at the forefront as we progress. "I'll end it in the morning when you seem unimportant", a lyric one wouldn't necessarily think could be about her ending her own life, "if I don't have you, I'll die", and then in the second pre-chorus of OLD TECHNOLOGY we get hit with a "I hope I die, I'm doing drugs tonight", "you gonna lay there and die? Yes, God"... so when she says "this was inevitable" in BRITANNY MURPHY. yes, going through the album it really nails that point down.

Her relationship with her father is also a key point that I think helps paint a picture of why things turned out the way that they did for her constant need for other people's attention and love. I think that one of my favorite parts that kind of nails this point down is the outro to I'M ACTUALLY KINDA FAMOUS. "You and your little Chanel bag, did daddy buy you that for Christmas? That's reeeaaal nice" is to me such a loaded lyric because it just ties everything together so well. I don't think that for her (at least this character of the worst girl in america that was created for this album and that ends up taking their own life) the new gifted chanels were inauthentic and that she'd rather have beat up Chanels, I think that she simply didn't know any better. BEAT UP CHANEL$, the song, feels like she is almost listing all of the things she dreams of. Even in her dreams and wishes, she would only imagine herself getting beat up chanels, brand new stuff wasn't even an option for her (Slayyyter has talked about how she grew up poor), and her specifically mentioning that "daddy" bought those new Chanels is because of her own relationship with her clearly neglectful dad. the "real nice" part is shrouded in sarcasm and sassiness but I think that deep down she does really think that and that there is a sense of jelousy present there. She grew up stacking money on the dresser, using old technology... I'd say, most of the insults that she uses do seem to be coming from a point of jelousy and deep insecurities and thinks that she secretly wishes for herself. Also I think that the usage of Father (God) at times might really be about her actual dad, but she chooses to direct them towards God, because, once again, worst girl in america is just that, a front that the character of the story refuses to take off until the very end.

The songs individually don't seem like they are super deep and profound, but once they are put together they all overlap and complete each other to create such a cool narrative and that is why I think it's such a well written album. I could go on and on about different lines that seem surface level on their own, but once connected with lines and themes from other songs give a completely different image, but I feel like I've already yapped enough lmao. Anyhow I would be super stoked if we get a deep dive on this one!!

Omg what a surprise! I love this album. I’m actually really happy you analyzed the lyrics most people’s focus when they do reactions are mainly just to the production. And i don’t blame them the productions amazing but its refreshing seeing someone go over lyrical content / deeper meaning as well 😊

oh we are soooo back i will be watching this as soon as i can

Slayyyter spoke about Gas Station in an interview - it started off loosely about a relationship, but the chorus is about an actual event where her dad left her at a gas station after an argument. I didn't fully pick up on it until she spoke about it, but it's wayyy more devastating with that context.

If you like her lyrical depth and vulnerablilty, I'd strongly recommend reacting to Slayyyter's most recent singles "brand new chanel$" and "crank 2" (basically 'inverse' versions of 'BEAT UP CHANEL$" and "CRANK"), which are part of her next slbum "WOR$T MAN IN AMERICA" as a sort of partner project for WGIA. Or if you'd prefer to wait until the whole album is out, that'd be fair. Regardless, I'd love to see your thoughts!!

Me encantan demasiado tus análisis y analogías que haces de cada letra, estoy súper ansioso de ver tu reacción a Superache de Conan, saludos desde Chile
