Manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries in March 1937 (Showa 12), it served until 1972 (Showa 47), after which it was preserved in working order at the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum. It began commercial operation as the SL Yamaguchi in August 1979 (Showa 54).

貴婦人と少女様な可愛さを持つ好きな機関車。
汽笛を聞くと銀河鉄道999号だね。999の汽笛の元の音源がC57やC58なので。
抜きと入れの作業、大宮などでは主連棒を外した状態での作業を見かけますが、動輪単体での移動方法など、
に違いをみました！ボイラー圧力も現役当時と同じ圧での現場使用もさすがだなァ～。
