Nora spends ten years caring for Silas, her childhood friend with an emotional disorder who can’t express love but whose thoughts she alone can hear.

She endures his cold words, knowing his heart says otherwise—until he humiliates her at their engagement.

Finally done, she leaves for Edinburgh and builds a new life.

There she meets Theo, whose open, honest affection shows her what healthy love feels like.

Silas eventually changes, but too late.

A story about how unspoken love cannot erase the harm caused by cruel words. #revengestory #redditstories #relationship

“Nora please come back. Nobody else would sit around for so long being my punching bag” is what he actually meant

Silas is a sad person, but his parents never got him the professional psychiatric care he truly needed. Instead, they dumped all that work on Nora and made her responsible for carrying the burden of his emotional problems. It's really a kindness that she rejected him, because their relationship was based on codependency, not true love or respect. If she hadn't left, he would never have gotten the help he needed. And she deserved a life free from the people who never valued her. Her parents were horrible, her cousin was a spoiled brat, and Silas' parents made their love too conditional on her obedience. She was fortunate to move far away and finally meet healthy people who cared for her.

You won’t love me mentally but mistreat me mentally 😒

Because she never gave him boundaries he never respected them.
If she had told him multiple times growing up "Don't talk to me like that or I'm leaving" then given him space things might have been different

Just because you have trouble expressing emotions doesn't mean you can not learn.

I mean is that even really a psychological problem? He just wanted to be cruel to her tho. Like why the hell did she wait for 10 years? After everything he’d done even though she can hear hus thoughts. Was it even that worth it? Like you like her but you keep on doing her wrong? He just like using her though since he knows that the mc will just let her do what he want to do.

Silas parents are good people 😊

I’m at least a little, teeny tiny bit happy, Silas did something of himself. He wasn’t a good person to Nora, but if this were a real life story, people do move on, and do something with their life.

So I’m happy this is realistic. People are not cartoonish villains, they are complex with layers.

Serena need not have been portrayed as faking her resume. She can be manipulative as a person and be professionally accomplished. Those qualities can coexist 😂😂 her retribution could have been loss of trust and reputation when it comes to relationships, any of them. Always being held at arms length by anyone who should matter is punishment too

Okay, psychological illnesses are understandable, but in the long run, you can't always push away the people who loves you. You can't always look back and lick old wounds and treat your partner like shi*, they're not the ones that hurt you

That's just a recipe of how you end up miserable and alone

This so called mental ailment of his seems to be dubious. It feels like a wonderful cover for cruelty and apathy. His parents and FL herself spoilt him rotten, to add to it.

On another note, it is not a crime to be ill equipped to handle people with real mental health issues. Just ensure they get the help they need, or meet the people who are capable of helping them. It doesn't mean you have to degrade yourself for their sake. As long as you are not being an asshole to them, it's ok to be ignorant.

I like Theo.

I'm similar to him in the sense that I need distance to regulate my emotions but since I've had years to learn how to handle myself, I don't talk when I'm upset. I stay quiet if I'm in a room with someone because I focus all my energy into calming down

There used to be this really seriously mentally ill girl that hung around in our circle, or more to the point she was on the edge of the social circle which was quite large
And pretty much nobody was unkind to her but she was emotionally abusive and because she was crazy and I mean legitimately crazy a lot of people put up with it
But I have never been a person who can control themselves from rolling their eyes

And at first I would simply get up and walk away from her.
Then I realized that if she didn't like you she would escalate big time she would go into overdrive and then turned everybody and go oh I just can't help myself I'm mentally ill

And I absolutely believe she was mentally ill but I also believe that she used it as an excuse. Because growing up I had a hormonal disorder at the time we thought it was a mental disorder and I would get extremely combative and overly emotional and so I simply would learn to stay the hell away from everybody when it started to happen. I didn't automatically think that she should have the same ability to walk away but I did think that she should be willing to say I'm sorry I'm being unstable right now and I didn't mean to hurt you
She wouldn't do that she would say that we had to accept her for who she was

So eventually I stopped getting up and walking away and said to her excuse me you're being extraordinarily rude and I don't care why you need to get up from my table and walk away
And I didn't hesitate to roll my eyes or ignore her
It got to the point where she was very obviously against me I was the person who triggered her the most and people would say oh well you trigger her and I would say I was sitting at this table at the bar and she came over and she does it every time

Find me one day starts in on me and I take out my headphones and I put them in my ear and I turned them on and I start scrolling on my phone and I ignore her and she hypes up in front of dozens of people, finally she's literally screaming at me and I look up at her after 20 minutes of this and say you need to step back two feet because if you come within a meter of me again I will contact the police now I'm putting my headphones back on and you can go on ranting

And she lunged at me and people pulled her away and I still did not react because I knew that's what she wanted.
And people said I was a monster and I thought I literally am sitting here ignoring her

35:48 as per AI summary she is free from the abuse. She is not part of their world after 20:00 but 35:00 onwards her new life is described.
