The answer to most of your questions: People are stupid

@haku8135 1 year ago

People collect wine for the same reason they collect anything.

Cause they like it. Lots of people that collect rare wine don't drink them at all, it's like buying an anime figure you never take out of the packaging. Having it is the point, not drinking it.

26:26 why not fill the glass, that's a good question. There's a really fun trick with generative AIs where they are unable to fill a wine glass full of red liquid, because people never fill wine glasses all the way full.

20:52 So in Europe regional products are protected to avoid hurting local businesses. So a champagne MUST be done in the Champagne region. A camembert cheese needs to be done in Camembert and so on. If you make the product you should name it something else otherwise you can get in trouble hence why champagne would be called sparkling wine otherwise.

"The term tannin (from scientific French tannin, from French tan "crushed oak bark", tanner "to tan", cognate with English tanning, Medieval Latin tannare, from Proto-Celtic *tannos "oak") refers to the abundance of these compounds in oak bark, which was used in tanning animal hides into leather."

I don't see many people immediately realize and know of the Animaniacs reference at 4:18 . :D

7:50 well, the wine doesn't age anymore, but people keep old bottles because the grape harvest is considered better quality depending on the year (better temperatures, sweeter fruit, etc.). The wine itself doesn't get better, but the taste may be better from the get-go than bottles from other years (allegedly, it's a very subtle difference), so people keep them for later or for collection purposes.

I forgot you were reacting to these lol. Next is Drinking followed by Oddities. I am sure you will enjoy them :)

I think of it like the difference between brand name and generic items. A brand-name medication like Tylenol might cost 20 dollars for a bottle of 50 pills, but a bottle of generic acetaminophen might only cost 10 dollars and the bottle even has 100 pills.

Other wines are more expensive because they are more scarce.

6:38, most people aren't very curious about wine and/or when you don't live in a wine region, known labels are a sure way to be sure you're not surprised in a bad way. in general : 5-10 bucks: table wine (fine but nothing to write home about) 11-15 (best quality price ratio) for special occasion 15-above is an event (your son is getting married, you won the lottery etc) it's gonna be better but not that better

@devanis 1 year ago (edited)

7:37 aging is really a question of taste, think like this: young wine are more sugary and sweet, older wine are more bitter and leathery, so it's more about what you like, older wine are more expensive so if you tried a few and didn't like them go for the younger ones ;)
PS: aging the wine requires specific condition (mostly a special kind of expensive fridge) if you don't have that (like most of us) drink your wine within 5 years after purchase and you'll be good

So.. The forget-me-nots made him forget? Is this some sort of reverse Oblivion Alchemy logic?

@crazyredhead4968 1 year ago

Technically chapam just from one place. If it's not that place it's just sparkling wine
