Hello Matthew Lowne

A few answers to questions that you had in the vid:

- The boosters have a hidden node inside them that connects to the decoupler (holding alt to disable surface attach makes this easier)
- The OMS engines are in the Benjee10_sharedAssets mod which is why they didn't show up with janitors closet (they're shared with a few of my other mods). They run on LF+Ox, the mono prop in the aft fuselage is just for RCS & there is a variant with heat shield tiles to match the shuttle aft
- The spacelab modules weren't accessible via freeIVA as they were attached to the wrong node - the EVA hatch on the back of the shuttle is offset lower down from the centreline of the payload bay, and that's the only crew accessible node. The higher up node is purely structural. There's a 'Z' shaped tunnel part that will get the lab modules lined up properly (and also airlock & docking adapter parts!). If you end up doing anything with HabTech the correctly sized docking ports are also in Benjee10_sharedAssets
- For better control on ascent, there's a -15 degree control point switch on the cockpit which lines up the control direction with the direction the engines are thrusting in. I'd recommend switching to this after SRB sep

Matt, hold Alt to attach parts only to their attachment nodes. The SRBs have nodes inside close to the nozzles that attach to the ring decouplers.

“Very poor glide performance” is truly a subjective measure. Sure it was a brick when you’re about to land, but at hypersonic speeds it had over 1000 miles of cross range capability. As a hypersonic glider it was an absolute stud.

@themightynuke905 6 months ago

There's a hidden bottom node in the solid boosters that links with those decouplers, hold alt so it only node snaps

This mod has realism overhaul configs matt you cant cant keep avoid the rsss

Benjee 10 also has a really nice SLS/Artemis/Orion mod, so I think it would be cool if you checked that out in spirit of the recent Artemis II launch

21:44 I'm pretty sure "booping" the shuttle was how they lost Columbia

@alexb-mc4jo 6 months ago

8:40 the space shuttle used hypergolic fuel for the oms engines, not monopropellant

@gofalcon9 6 months ago

For the shuttle OMS engine, the exacte replica is present in the Artemis construction kit. It's a verry nice mod.

This is beautiful but not as beautiful as Matt himself

If theres one thing I remember from middle school English class, it's that a 'simile' is a metaphor that uses the words 'like' or 'as'. So the Flying Lead is AAAKKKSSSSHUUAALLLLLY a metaphor.

@Foodconsumer2137 6 months ago

The OMS engines are in the Benjee10_sharedAssets mod

@Somebody71828 6 months ago

21:40 at least it's not a foam that booped Columbia this time

@drifter92 6 months ago

Matt get the "Fly By Wire SAS mode" for improved Handling i really suggest it as it means you dont have to make shakey movements when entering orbit

@AlphaBravo_Gaming 6 months ago

Artemis 2 launch was awesome to see in person. Can’t wait to see you replicate the mission cause I have a feeling your already working on it lol.

I love that almost a decade later I've come back and he's still doing Kerbal videos

@controllerpleb6568 6 months ago

24:57 there are at least two mods that either add back the missing seats to the mk3 cabin, or add a new part that has them. Apparently the seats are there, but not usable stock.

@ElGato01 6 months ago

0:38 described as a flying brick? Just like a Volvo

@MinerBat 6 months ago

the oxidizer was not used by the fuel cells, but by the engines. it uses modded hydrogen fuel but stock oxidizer, so seemingly it drained the oxidizer from the shuttle before the fuel tank
