i am going to vietnam

It is true, prices are rising, especially for imported products. I have been cutting back. I installed solar because I was more tired of the brownouts than the bill. I am glad I did because one of my neighbor's bills jumped from 3000 to 6000 pesos in just a short period of time. If you are already established and have children here, it really doesn't pay to relocate if you are retired and from a Western Country because the prices for a home in Western Countries are anywhere from 4 to 10 times what they are in the Philippines. For the men that are single, it is a different situation. Other countries in Asia are more appealing because the cost of living is comparabile to what it is in the Philippines, but these countries are more developed and have as much or more to offer than the Philippines. The only major drawback is the language barrier. Not as many people speak English in these Asian countries.  Personally, my only real criticism of the Philippines is the weather. If you grew up here its fine, but for someone that grew up in a climate that is less humid and has four seasons, the weather here is difficult to adjust to.

Get the special retirement visa, go where the climate and weather is what you love. Cooler in the higher elevations, hot and humid in the beach areas. Rent. Or buy a small condo. Same with partners. Keep it casual.  Enjoy the culture. Die happy.

I’m not worried about my money or the Philippines! I intend to come to the province to be with my Filipina in her home that we will renovate! I’m 73 still in good health with my 65yr old Filipina! We love each other completely! I’ve already told her that I will accept the culture and the family!

We built a house in 2016. I’m glad we did then because materials and labor have risen dramatically.  McDo is my guilty pleasure and there is a KFC so I can enjoy western flavors.  Yes prices are up but this is a world wide phenomenon.   I blew thousands of dollars just visiting the US for a couple months last year.  I could put in an upgraded solar which would temper the constant brownouts.  Maybe next year.

With the strong dollar im living better than ever !!

American social security is adjusted for inflation every year. I've calculated an amount I can withdraw from my retirement fund that keeps it growing with inflation. So I have inflation built into my income.

Everywhere is expensive Philippines is still cheaper than the western country, but if u go to Vietnam is cheaper or Thailand so still good moving to Asia.

Why, really WHY move there ?  It’s just sounding like ya don’t want us there.

My electric bill (before installing solar) was about P6000. I had a neighbor who said his monthly bill was P20,000. I wondered how. Maybe he has air on on in every room of the house 24/7? We have 4 aircons units, one in each bedroom and one in the living room. We rarely have more than 2 on at a time, often just one. We set them to 28. Im getting used to the heat here so I now think 28 is cool. Sometimes I turn it up to 29. My wife is a Filipina and she thinks 28 is freezing. Just get used to it being s little warmer and you can save a bundle on air. In the US I used to set my AC to 70 (21C).
