Good of you to make sure your mechanic can now afford that second villa in Spain.

Here is what I have learned about selling a used car from watching lots of excellent High Peak videos:
- Fit new number plates (not 3D)
- Put all paper work in a nice file
- Tune radio to Classic FM
- Spend £20 on a cheap mini valet
- Put National Trust sticker in windscreen.
If all is lost, it's done suicidal mileage and has been inhabited by three Afghan hounds, ring Matt and ask for £800.

Seems wholly appropriate thet Joe parked it around the back with the bins

I had a 4.6 HSE, and from experience i can say avoid them like Jimmy Saville.

I’ve had my 98 4.6 HSE  P38 for 17 years. I absolutely love the old gas guzzler annnnd sometimes want to set light to it. Yours has got lots of potential to be a beauty. Good luck with it Matt. Looking forward to seeing more P38 updates. Unless you set light to it.

WELCOME!

Bought my £2500 4.0 HSE 2001 P38 just before Christmas. Using it almost daily. I absolutely adore it!

I want more. It's a problem.

First of all... If it hasn't been done, UNPLUG THE FOB ANTENNA behind offside rear passenger seat (under trim). It will save your battery draining from every Ring doorbell and wifi signal waking up the BECM all night. You can still use the fob, just up close. - better more permanent fixes are available.

The air suspension is fantastic, being early, it's VERY cheap and VERY easy to fix, and should last a good 5-10 years before needing any kind of service. Compressor can be services DIY, fiddly but cheap, and lasts.

Heated seats stop working, bit of a design flaw but fixable, I still have to do mine.

I've also fixed the HVAC pixels (costs £5 to buy a replacement "Zebra" connector).

Fixed water in footwell coming through air filters (plenty of YouTube videos on how to do this, costs nothing basically, bit of silicon, lasts forever supposedly).

Planning on replacing the heater core at some point with an Audi unit that uses flexible pipes (dashboard out job - the fixed OEM metal pipes have o-rings you can fix but again I think a design flaw).

The P38 community is fantastic by the way. I'm no mechanic, but all the common problems with the P38 can be dealt with relatively cheaply and DIY, just engage with other lunatics in the forums. Help is on tap.

Only semi-serious issue I'm aware of, the head gasket will probably need doing if it hasn't been done. But that goes without saying I've heard. Mine was done at 90k miles I believe, as I'm at 140 now I think it may need doing again fairly soon.

Also by the way, I am yet to see a P38 with any serious rust issues. They tend not to rust.

Cannot wait to see what you do to it. I'm bonkers about them.

Myself and my son own a few of them, still regularly drive my early 1995 HSE, it’s still magnificent 👌🏻 but they are old now and you have to understand them and tinker, compared with modern cars they are simple.
Yours is a beautiful spec and will be magnificent when detailed.
The fuel flap will only open with the ignition off.

Thanks for the kind words Matt! Great to see you get yourself a P38! Similar condition to mine when I first got it. Would love a V8 to go with my diesel at some point, the bmw m51 is a dubious powerplant/ aspiring teapot. I actually think the v8 is a little less likely to pop. They all appreciate a bigger radiator and a lot of general maintenence but you totaly know the range rover deal. Marylin Monroe did too, thats deffinately what that quote is about 😂

Always great to see High Peak Autos and Shifting Metal together, some of the best content on Youtube.

I had 2x P38s, one in Australia and one which I bought when I lived in the USA. All my US friends and colleagues laughed and asked why I didn't buy a Chevy Tahoe or Ford Expedition. I drove that P38 all over the southern USA from Texas to Georgia. Oil changed every 5000 miles and regularly serviced, it never stranded me and really only had one electrical issue which needed repair. It gave less trouble than their Tahoes and Expeditions.

Pick your brother up on the way home... Rick Astley 😂

On Grand Theft Auto was it harder to steal a Range Rover than in real life?

I must say - I do like the interior colour scheme and the general look of the interior of that P38. Nice!

At this point I recommend seeing a mental health specialist.

In Australia the released a Service Managers folder called “project Pegasus” that were for all the P38 fixes that customers were not to know about.

Had one. Love them! No problems whatsoever. Problem was the fuel consumption that was prohibitive for my 100/day commute. reliability is actually much better than media suggests. Even the air suspension is ok and cheap to repair if it goes wrong. But my employer only gives 10 cts/km and only for the first 20 km's. It costs me € 25/day just to commute to work. Had to sell it for that reason but still my best and most comfortable car I've had, which includes Jaguars.

The joy that Joe must have felt letting a P38 leave his forecourt without having to give a warranty!

Love the colour combination on this one.

It's great to see you and Joe together, as you are both are great channels, which I love to watch. I like the pinstripe. I'm looking forward to the updates on this. You haven't lost the plot. Have a great weekend,

Come on lad since 2020 I waited for this moment

Old Land Rovers are like shovelling piles of cash into a furnace to stay warm!
