I work in a wind turbine blade factory. I play the Mechanicus soundtrack on the bluetooth speakers at volumes that echo across the entire site from time to time.
There's one particular job that requires using a pneumatic grinder to "activate" the blade's surface before a toxic putty coating can be applied to it.
Past a certain radius on the Blade's surface, the lightening protection system's internal metal mesh is less than a centre metre under the external gel coating of the surface. If the mesh is perforated *at all*, the turbine will EXPLODE if struck during a storm. Any damage to the system mid production causes a several day long repair job.
Imagine trying to remove a layer of tinfoil from an egg, with a heavy power tool that can tear through soft metals in seconds, without breaking the shell. That's the job.
Due to the horrifying work conditions, there's an extremely high turn over, the factory now has maybe a handful of people capable of performing this properly. Production operatives will literally cower in fear at the prospect of performing this job, knowing that drug tests or disciplinary hearings will meet them if they fuck it up.
So many of the new hires act like hot shit, they will throw their weight around, tune the radio however they want most of the time, claim that they have the right- because they could just beat you up, or lick the bosses arse until he sacks you otherwise.
But when that job comes around- This song always plays. Nobody dares to interrupt me in my work, nobody wants to be the cunt who set production back by a week because they decided to mess with the weird guy.
I never feel more like I'm doing the Omnissiah's work.
"There is no truth in flesh, only betrayal." "There is no strength in flesh, only weakness." "There is no constancy in flesh, only decay." "There is no certainty in flesh but death."
The Mysteries of the Cult Mechanicus
-Life is directed motion.
-The spirit is the spark of life.
-Sentience is the ability to learn the value of knowledge.
-Intellect is the understanding of knowledge.
-Sentience is the basest form of Intellect.
-Understanding is the True Path to Comprehension.
-Comprehension is the key to all things.
-The Omnissiah knows all, comprehends all.
The Warnings of the Cult Mechanicus
-The alien mechanism is a perversion of the True Path.
-The soul is the conscience of sentience.
-A soul can be bestowed only by the Omnissiah.
-The Soulless sentience (i.e. Necrons) is the enemy of all.
-The knowledge of the ancients stands beyond question.
-The Machine Spirit guards the knowledge of the Ancients.
-Flesh is fallible, but ritual honours the Machine Spirit.
-To break with ritual is to break with faith.
I asked a church congregation if I and a few of my friends could play something calming in the church and so this we played and all seemed so calmed and captivated. Even the priests seemed to find it strangely pleasing. It seems that the Omnissiah blessed us with his praise that day.
People who don't have disabilities in some way listen to this song and appreciate it's beauty. People who have suffered the weakness of flesh, and the weakness of emotion and the fragility of the mind- They understand it's purpose, they take heart in it's power, and they confide in it's great wisdom. Even as a devout Christian, this piece brings me such joy to listen to. I feel so connected to the concepts and beliefs of the Mechanicus. How our salvation is found not in flesh, but in the divine. How all understanding and truth comes from the Lord, and how our flesh, and the realm in which we live, are our weaknesses in the battle against the demons. And the Messiah is our strength.
"You may say, it is impossible for a man to become like the Machine. And I would reply, that only the smallest mind strives to comprehend its limits." -Fabricator General Kane
