It was the other rook that sacrificed

I read the title and hoped I would see a rook moving diagonally

The tactics with the rook were insane

That was extremely satisfying just to watch.

incredible theme, reminds me of steinitz-von bardeleben game

With a (dutch) peak rating of pretty much same as your opponent I felt sorry for the guy. I have played high 1900's last few weeks and is just too tough! Hopefully he learned from the game, thats pretty much the only gain one can expect playing someone lot higher.

Levy approves

Wow. This reminds me of Steinitz vs von Bardeleben , Hastings 1895, wherein Steinitz sacked his rook 4 times before Bardeleben gave up!

Congratulations on this cool win, Nelson! Seems as if you played some look-alikes of classical games in Reno: the first game with two pawns on the 7th rank vaguely resembled that of McDonnell - De La Bourdonnais where Black had even three connected pawns on the penultimate rank, and today we have kind of a reprise of the "ghost rook game" Steinitz - von Bardeleben from Hastings 1895. Really looking forward to your further games of the tournament!

you friggin killed it nelson

What a game, Nelson!

That must have been really satisfying!!

Great game Nelson, congrats mate!

What a disgusting game. Nelson summoning his inner Tal. Great job buddy! 👏

Would be nice if you add smth like round 2 bla-bla tournament to the tite as well, so it could be easier to find next game via search option

Hey Nelsi, when you open game review, could you please scroll down to the bottom so we can see each player's game score? Thanks, and great game!

I had the opportunity to play this gambit vs. one of the namesakes (SM Ken Smith) 50 years ago @ The World Open and 'chickened out'. I played 2 Nf3 e6 3 d4 (and lost anyway - a pawn up!?)

really love your games nelson :)

Brilliant game. Pretty satisfying.

Well played! Savage game
