Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip's opening scene for the first episode has to be Sorkin's love letter to Network. That on-air meltdown, it still gives me full body chills. "And I'm never sick at sea!" is another of Sorkin's often used phrases in his works.

The sound design during the nightclub scene is the best ever

This film is an absolute masterpiece and the detail you guys go into is brilliant.

"Hand covers bruise" is the name of the piano piece that basically became the theme.

I rewatched it a few months back and I was kind of taken back by just how much the culture of misogyny (plus the internalised misogyny in Mark) stood out, made in an age when social media was in its early stages and the term "toxic masculinity" wasn't part of the zeitgeist.

27:48 absolutely feel the same, Zodiac is my Christmas comfort movie for some reason

Fantastic discussion. Great to see this "15 years later" analysis from Jack, who is originally the one who encouraged me to watch this film after I saw it on his list of favorite movies on the og Jack Howard YouTube channel. Always a pleasure to listen to him talk about a movie he obviously is so passionate about and has thought about so much.

Ive watched that film so many times and always thought Eduardo  just wanted 2 beers after a long flight 😂

Great conversation gentleman, I am so happy to hear that you both hold The Social Network in such high esteem, it is a marvelous film and I thank you both for spending some time to just speak on it. Fincher is a master of cinematic direction, his best tool is Aaron Sorkin, unfortunately Aaron doesn’t have the collection of assets to pull from that David does and I think the sequel will be not in the same league as the original, but I sure am thankful that it’s being made, thank you for the chat.

You guys doing an in-depth episode on Eyes Wide Shut would make my Christmas

Fincher also managed to direct the highest rated and the lowest rated episodes of Love, Death & Robots: Bad Travelling and Can't Stop.

2010 was a different time in so many ways. Facebook was a GIANT then. Its not so much now, but its an interesting time capsule.

7:34 for the obligatory Exorcist allusion

A true masterpiece 👏

Gone Girl was still top Fincher in my book, but he never eclipsed his 90s run of great films. I think he's best when he can elevate a great premise / good script. And I preferred his celluloid days – the analog esthetic was a nice contrast to his visual perfectionism.

Loved this kind of video. Would you do similar ones for other films which have maybe initiated a change of direction in filmmaking, or have had some kind of cache in how it’s grown over time since its release. Or maybe a video on why films and tv struggle to make good fantasy or sci-fi with relation to the source material (or at least get a lot of fan base resentment) such as Rings of Power, The Witcher, Wheel of time.

So glad to hear that I'm not alone with my thoughts on Kaufman. I've loved a lot of the films he has written, but I've never enjoyed him as a director. But the popular opinions of film spaces online make me feel like I must be crazy for thinking this.

The Social Network forever changed my view of muffins?

I remember when I was about to watch that film I didn’t expect that it would be that good although I was a huge fan of David Fincher many years ago
