I regularly raid in World of Warcraft, not bleeding edge, but we do heroic raiding which is one step below bleeding edge. And I've played D&D. It was hard finding a D&D group as a WOW player, because a lot of D&D players seem to think that us WOW players are going to all be murder goblins, min/maxers, basically expecting a physical form of WOW.... which is not the case. I don't have the kind of elaborate backstories for my characters that some RPers do, but I do have basic personalities, scraps of backstory, rough outlines of what they would do in certain situations and I think it would be fun to get to play them in a D&D game. I had a group during the pandemic, but we fell apart after a couple years, and I'd like to get back into it. In this economy I probably wouldn't buy the rulebook... but heck, might be something to mention to my guild mates for our late season raiding, when we're done progging and have gone down to just cleaning things up once a week, as a fun way to still be a little social on Thursdays.

I'm relatively new to D&D and the WotC ecosystem. Me and three of my friends (late 20s, early 30s) started a campaign about 6 months ago and have been enjoying it, mentioned it often in conversations with other members of our friend group who were not originally interested in joining. Now that we've said we are starting a new campaign in December based on World of Warcraft, we've had 4 more members of our friend group ask to join. All 4 of these are former WoW players who have never played D&D.

WoW used to have over 12 million monthly subscribers. I think there's a lot of former players out there looking for a way to reconnect with the IP, without getting back into video games, and this might be it.

super insightful! also your editor is showing ;)

Me. It’s for MEEEEEEEE.  I mean Travis willingham is gazlowe and Liam is illidan.

Definitely a ton of food for thought here. I bought the collector's edition, but as you said... I'm the target market.

yeah it will not. but they invest on those to make others look cooler. i mean. well get some final fantasy or whatever ones in the future wichi wouls tand out vs the WOw one. you know what i mean?

I'll admit, as a non wow player who is in the young skewing group you mentioned, this book is still 8 subclasses, 16, species, and 60+ spells not mentioning interesting extras like class feature variants. That's only the player content. 5e has seen what, like 5 different major mtg crossovers that few people were initially familiar with and people just mine them for content to use in their own games. The world of wow is a lot better to just play in than any of the mtg world thanks to the dungeons and it already matches D&D about as well as many official settings do so imo it's mostly about whether the content itself looks worth it and so far it does.

Yes people will buy it, heck I am sure there are WoW players who have no interest in playing DnD will still buy this book. I am not sure if it will be a “best seller” but I do think there is an audience for it .
