I love the perspective Jim Shockey was able to give us! Too often people get absorbed in their own ideals and can't see different ways of living life. I really appreciate his ability to adapt and understand how Point Hope has persisted and lived for so long without the option to grow their own food be it meat or through agriculture

In Savoonga, Alaska on St. Lawrence Island, we hunt them as well. I wish people weren't so opinionated without us having to explain our way of life. This is our food that we go out & get to feed the (whole community) & we also share to other communities. This is life, this our life!

I absolutely love the culture, community and substantial way of life for these folks.

You know it's a good time when Jim shockey teaches you something that you never learned in your life I swear Jim should be a teacher one day when he retires he would have been the ultimate teacher to teach the next generation on how to live and not have their eyes glued to a phone

In May 2007, a 15 m (49 ft) specimen caught off the Alaskan coast was discovered with the 89 mm (3.5 in) head of an explosive bomb lance of a model manufactured between 1879 and 1885 lodged in its body, so the whale was probably bomb lanced sometime between those years, and its age at the time of death was estimated at between 115 and 130 years.
The annual subsistence harvest of the Western Arctic stock has ranged from 14 to 72 animals,
amounting to an estimated 0.1-0.5% of the population.

Life comes in full circle for us all and i believe this way of life should be respected as all our ancestors did it before us and we could learn so much more of the Inupiaq than us right now

When you have been lucky enough to witness this whole process you realize that it is truly a symbiotic existence.

Tks for upload and sharing. Tks to the production team around Jim to make this documentary possible. These Inuit communities document how life should be. Living for now in a country where 1 of 3 pensioners are in loneliness, in one of "richest countries" on this planet. The Netherlands has already lost what it needs to stay mentally healthy. More than 25% are affected and infected what we call "mental illnesses". Your docu is much more than about whale hunting, its about how we should live as humans, in harmony with nature, in harmony with ourselves. Many, many tks by heart to remember us about the essentials of life!
