At the siege of Charleston, Marion jumped from a second floor window and broke his ankle causing him to walk with a lifelong limp.

Love the Swamp Fox!  Revolutionary War often gets overlooked today.  So many good, courageous stories.

I live near Camden, SC, during the Battle of Camden, Marion and his men hid on my property,i have found balls, flint and other drops.  He was in the same area a year later for the Battle of Hobkirk Hill.  He gave Lord Cornwallis a rough time.  There are plenty of spots he hid his men according to locals all around here and other places.

I went to Marion Military Institute located in Marion, Alabama.  As a proud member of the "Swamp Fox" I was trained in gorilla warfare and hand to hand combat (Green Beret cadre). We wore a beret that displayed a "Swamp Fox" patch. First day of try out over a hundred showed up. Next day 38. Frances Marion was invited to a party. When he was ready to leave the revelers blocked the exit. He then went to the 2nd story balcony and leaped to freedom. That is where he got the limp from injury to his leg. Thank you for wonderful fact filled video. As much as I studied his history I had never come across the siege tower. My Scottish ancestor fought against "Bloody Tarlton" yielding a Scottish claymore. He dispatched a circle of dead and wounded around him. However, he incurred so many saber cuts he was given permission to try to make it home to N.C. He died on the N.C. S.C. border near Lumberton, S.C.. That claymore at one time was exibited at the Smithsonian Institute recognizing Jonas Johnson as a Revolutionary Hero. I still have my "Swamp Fox" patch. Im 70 years old.

The Patriot is actually a lot more historically accurate than people realize.

There once was a weekly TV series back in the day called "The Swamp Fox" and starred Leslie Nielsen (Yes, THAT Leslie Nielsen of "Airplane" and "The Naked Gun" series).  In his younger years he was a 'leading man' actor until he developed a fondness for making comedy movies.

When you asked what movie popped into our heads regarding the Revolutionary War, I immediately thought of a series instead.  "Turn, Washington's spies."

I live 10 minutes from Lake Marion and the sheer amount of history all around, (and in) the lake scream Swamp Fox all day long.

Thank you for this.  I am a native of southern North Carolina and I love finding out more about the battles of Kings Mountain, Cowpens, Camden, Guilford Court House but this is a story that I didn't know -- it's interesting and thrilling.  I'm firmly of the belief that the continued wearing down of the troops commanded by Cornwallis and Tarleton were a big factor in forcing Cornwallis into the disastrous decision to try to move north and thus allowing the American forces to surround him and force his surrender -- South Carolina and North Carolina were a big part in the victory of the America's Revolutionary forces.
