This Cub Cadet XT1 Kohler 7000 won't start after suffering major electrical damage and melted battery cables. If your Cub Cadet XT1 Kohler 7000 won't start, this video shows the diagnosis and repair without replacing the entire factory wiring harness.

This mower is a Cub Cadet XT1 LT46 KH, model 13APA1CT009, powered by a Kohler 7000 Series V-twin. The original starter was marked Kohler 32 098 08 / 1999-1140051.

The battery was dead, the positive and negative battery cables were badly melted, and the starting circuit had suffered major electrical damage. After diagnosing the no-start problem, I replaced the starter, starter solenoid, battery, and both battery cables.

For the replacement battery, I installed an Interstate SP35.

I made new positive and negative battery cables using 6-gauge battery cable wire, installed new terminal lugs, crimped and soldered the connections, and finished them with heat shrink. The replacement cable is considerably heavier and stiffer than the original factory cable.

Rather than opening the entire factory wiring harness and adding a pile of labor to an older Cub Cadet, I routed the new positive starter cable neatly alongside the existing harness and secured it every few inches with zip ties. It turned out clean, secure, and serviceable.
