I visited Kamakura last Year on a random Trip to Tokyo, and one Morning just decided on : "hmmm... let's Visit Kamakura today and spend 2 days there before going to Yokohama" -- and I did!!! It was actually one of the best trip I had that Year in Japan with all the visits to a lot of Shrines and Coffee Shops + Restaurants in that area. Definitely a must visit when you're in Japan.

It was in Kamakura that I discovered the deliciousness of Aji-Fry. Bought one, ate it and ran back to kiosk to get another. lol. This was when the Enoden cars had wooden floors.

Kamakura has such a unique vibe compared to the rest of Japan. You could easily do another episode there trying shirasu-don, trying the sweets at Kamakura Mameya, visiting the farmers market, and the Enoshima Iwaya caves are close by.

If you're in the more wooded areas, the evening cicadas have a very peaceful sound

Kamakura is one of those places that looks completely different depending on what kind of experience you’re looking for. I loved how this video goes beyond the usual “just visit the Great Buddha” itinerary and actually makes you think about whether it’s worth the trip.

It's definitely worth a visit but mainly for the giant Buddha, the Hase-dera temple, which is amazing, and the shopping street as well.

The Great Buddha at Kamakura genuinely caught me off guard, I didn’t expect to just stand there for 10 mins. We went in October, got to Komachi-dori around 8am and had it almost to ourselves, then by 11 it was packed. The shirasu bowl was the real highlight for me. But idk, does anyone else think Kamakura is a half-day trip unless you add Enoshima? I keep seeing people say it’s overrated and I don’t fully get that.

Over-tourism is a problem here post-covid. Please follow signs and remember this is an area where people have homes. It is not a theme park or an anime film.

I was in Kamakura during cherry blossom season this last end of march-early april. It was stunning. Hase-Dera temple was stunning and the very was amazing. Had the best sourdough bread and fish sand ive ever had in my life at a place called Potatis along the road a walk down from the Enoden line station.

Wish I had more time there or got to visit Enoshima island down near the end
