Brewing coffee while listening to HAGANE – “The Rising of the Shield” 🇯🇵⚔️☕
Today I’m checking out HAGANE, a Japanese all-female metal band, with their powerful new song “The Rising of the Shield.”
I’m brewing a V60 while experiencing the song for the first time — from the melodic guitars and powerful vocals to the fast riffs, drums and full-on Japanese power metal energy.
This is my first HAGANE reaction, so let’s see what happens when specialty coffee meets Japanese metal! 🤘☕

SAKURA seems to have been influenced by her father, who was a metal fan and played in a band.
She started playing guitar around the age of seven and developed her fast playing skills
through copying metal songs and practicing. She formed HAGANE in 2018.
This is the first band the vocalist (NAGI) has been in.
She joined in 2024, and I think she'll get even better once she gets more used to it.
The Japanese word Hagane (meaning "steel") is pronounced roughly like "hah-gah-neh".
Pronunciation Breakdown
• ha: Sounds like "hah" (as in the word father).
• ga: Sounds like "gah" (as in gardener).
• ne: Sounds like "neh" (as in net, without a long "ay" sound at the end).
Sakura ascended to goddess status with this song, that solo is superalitive, she was already great but in this one her writing, composition and guitar work are just superlative. Add to that her leadership, she is cute, modest and beautiful and just WOW. You should have a look at her personal channel for some excellent covers all of which she has been posting from when she was still in High School till now.
Junna the drummer is very famous for her drum covers with over 200,000 subscribers and her cover of Through the Fire and Flames has over 7 million views.
Kudos to the rest of the group as well, Sayaka's bass tone was brutal and she never makes a mistake. Junna's drumming has really allowed Sakura to go to another level with her playing and dragged Sayaka up as well and Nagi's vocals since joining as a rookie has become fabulous.
Did you see Sakura's comments under the video on the official site for the song:
"Hello~♪ This is Sakura, the guitarist!
I wrote the lyrics for this song based on the anime "The Rising of the Shield Hero"!
It's a very heavy, classic, exhilarating metal song.
Also, I think the guitar solo, as well as the whole song, will evoke the kind of metal that everyone imagines.
Please enjoy watching and listening to it along with the live video!"
So it is about the anime show so completely about fantasy.
