[DELAYED EPISODE] Nineteen years ago, Instructor Dorian Voss wrote one sentence that ended a cadet's combat-engineering career over six seconds of hesitation before a beam the sensors had already cleared. He never asked what the cadet had actually heard. He never thought about it again — until a retrofit contract brought that same name back across his desk as Commandant, and the engineer standing in his tunnels was about to be right about a fracture the modern scanners couldn't find, for the second time in his life.
This is not the story of a man who sacrificed everything for someone else. This is the story of the debt on the other side of that — the one Commandant Voss didn't know he owed until the person he owed it to walked back into the room to collect it, one measured, unhurried question at a time.
Fifth episode in the Dorian Voss Arc, following directly from his six months as Commandant. Prior episodes (EP17, EP18, EP20, EP22) add context but are not required to follow this one.
If you've ever trusted the instrument over the person standing right in front of you, and been wrong about it, this one is for you.

Nineteen years is a long time to carry a question you never asked out loud. Commandant Dorian Voss spent this episode learning that the doctrine he inherited — and applied without ever questioning it — had already cost one cadet his entire career over six seconds nobody bothered to explain. Proving it took a cracked support column, a scanner that was confident and wrong, and an engineer who had spent nineteen years quietly being right anyway.
Have you ever found out, years later, that you were the reason something went wrong for someone else — and that they never once said a word about it to you?
