Congratulations on Edimentals being published today! 🎉

Congrats on the new book 😊 🎉 Lots of really interesting ideas that I will put into my garden. Brilliant !

🎉 It's out today! Well done mate. Looking forward to reading this book. 👍

I'm embarrassed that I was unaware of the difference between complement and compliment until now

Around 7:05 you talk about the 7 layers. I do guilds around each of my fruit trees where I put 2 fruit shrubs, a perennial herb, daffodils or day lilies, and fill the gaps with green onions/garlic chives and strawberries. It works well together and covers the ground under a tree with useful things.

Got my copy of the book a couple days ago on pre order and have briefly looked at it. This weekend I'm going to spent alot of time delving into Edimentals and extract the information. Alot to learn but I'm up for it. You have to keep your mind and body young and excited about learning new information.

Woot on Edimentals being published! It is #1 on Amazon Canada in numerous categories. The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I are so happy for you! ALL nonfiction (and fiction - big sigh) book sales are so very low right now. The belief is this is due to AI. So please celebrate this feat and know you ROCK! You are improving lives and changing the world!

I have seen this for years, and honestly when I have tried it, it hasn’t been really correct, like the silly bit of basil making tomatoes taste better.  I do grow my basil next to my tomatoes, because it does better in my greenhouse than outdoors.   This year, I had the most horrendous problem with aphids, luckily I have nasturtiums that come up everywhere, and they took the brunt of them.  During the 2027 season, I am going to grow nasturtiums all around the exterior of my food garden, hoping to keep the aphids on the outskirts.  I do plant flowers that draw in beneficial insects, and I grow a lot of lavender and marigolds, which I notice helps keep mosquitoes away.  Sadly, my using nasturtiums as ground cover from the sun this year, was a huge breeding ground for aphids.

Congratulations on your new book!  You are such a treasure to the world’s gardening community.

Yea this is good idea and its helped my garden a ton to plant a diversity of annuals, flowers, herbs fruit trees and shrubs. Building an ecosystem is like building a diversified portfolio.  Monoculture is like going all in on a single meme coin then crying when caterpillar take your lunch money 😂. Fancy word is polyculture or guilds

Thank you. This makes me feel less confused and takes away some stress around gardening.

I like this idea. I grow my zucchini up a stake and plant lettuce/spinach/cilantro under it.

I have grown nasturtium in every garden bed I've ever had. And not once has there been any pest damage on my nasturtium. Meanwhile, my brassicas are covered in holes.

I've never had a problem growing spring onions next to peas. Lettuce and paris market carrots planted between garlic works a treat. I don't kill anything on my plot, not even slugs, because it's nature, and nature needs all the help it can get in these times. There's always enough for everyone.

Intercropping is what I’ve heard this strategy called.

I had tried to grow corn, beans and squash (3 sisters) for years. Then I stuck a few edamame seeds in the corners of a raised bed with okra in the middle and marigolds along the sides. The okra grew to about 7 feet tall and incredibly strong stems that the edamame happily climbed up and the two worked perfectly and healthily with the bright masses of marigolds below. This year I also had lots of volunteer beans and self-seeded marigolds spring up so I'm thinking all I have to do is save the seeds from a couple of okra left on the plant till way too late and I've got that bed next year for nothing. It will take a few tries to find the best beans for my use but I now know this will work and I don't have to mess with corn... it hates my garden, is cheap at the store and only puts out a couple of ears per plant even in the best of times.

I have self-seeded bronze fennel, borage, comfrey and achillea/yarrow dotted all over my allotment plot, with around a dozen small fruit trees in and among the beds. Plenty of currants and berries too. The annual vegetable plantings and flowers fit wherever there  is space. I don't have wooden sides on beds, just woodchip paths to separate different areas. I can rearrange my growing space more easily by doing this.

Congrates on your book

Congrats on your book!

Overlapping plants to bolster creativity & vitality is ftw

I would add waters needs as something to consider when planting things together.
