Hi.  Canadian, here.  I think the US government/military needs to understand that it's OUR airspace in the north - not theirs - and we are charged with defending OUR COUNTRY in that airspace.  We were only letting you use it because an attack from Russia would undoubtedly come from over the pole and the Canadian north.  Interesting how the US doesn't "need anything from Canada" and "Canada is nasty to deal with" but yet the US government and military is all too willing to exploit our resources and location to better suit their needs.  That era is coming to an end.

We are Canada. We don't need American approval.

We have been attacked and threatened continually since December 2024..We are tired of it. 🇨🇦🇨🇦

Swede here. Our fighterplanes are made to defend our country and by so made to handle the cold of the north something that Canada appreciate because they also know the northern cold and like the planes to be able to handle that cold and also they do not need to rely on the US, but instead can build and maintain the planes themselves.
And let's face it the US is acting like a spoiled teenager.

The USA doesn’t need anything from Canada…including our money.

Keeping the bridge closed is not negotiation it is extortion

It is not wise to purchase complex defense systems from the enemy that threatens you with conquest and annexation.

Maybe the Swedish jets don't come with deliberately detuned capability or a kill switch?

The US doesn't negotiate, they demand

Carney  did say 70 cents on the dollar went to the us war machine would no longer be an option.  This is why the US is furious.

The US doesn't want or need anything from Canada.  That's a quote made several times.  But it turns out what they want is our money, our resources, our freedom.  Guess what, you're not getting any of it.  FAFO.

It's also about the huge cheaper cost difference of flying the Gripen  vs flying the F35.  I forget the correct figures, but read that the Gripen is $35,000 or less, per flight vs the F35 being millions per flight. And the Gripen would be built in  Canada by Canadians, so that's new jobs created.

The United States doesn't want anything Canadians have. And that includes billions of dollars in cash community in cash. You don't need it, trump, you told us

If I had a wish: let the first Gripen take off from the 'Gordie Howe Bridge'.

The F-35 is an over-hyped, over-priced pampered little princess that needs constant attention and reassurance just to maintain a 50% availability rate on a GOOD day. Frankly Canada should have just cancelled the whole contract for breach of contract. The F-35's we did order did NOT come as advertised, cost 50% MORE than the agreed to price and were delivered much later than they were supposed to be.  The US can't even be trusted to honour its own contracts and agreements.

From Sweeden here.
Saab 39 Gripen is cheaper to both buy and maintain. You can land on roads and quickly get them back in the air. They are also faster in the air and from what I understand easy to maneuver. Canada has probably considered carefully before buying. They have a similar climate to us in the north so Gripen will probably be a good fit. Canada has every right to decide for themselves what they will defend their country with.

Why would we buy a jet the The USA can cut off. The USA is the threat to Canada not Russia not China It is the USA

Who in their right mind would buy jets with a kill switch from their ennemy?
11:10 Yes, that's exactly what the Americans are saying. Since WWII, the US pretty much demanded that its allies buy military equipment from them and they've kept this monopoly for 80 years, so they're now quite frustrated that ex-allies are going off on their own. Arrogant? Absolutely but hey, when was the US not arrogant.

The F35 not suitable for Canada’s north. The Gripen is built or working in the arctic.

Why does the US Government feel so entitled to involve themselves in every other countries business?  They need to stay in their own lane, mind their own business and fix their own problems, because they have enough to fix right now in their own country. Leave my country 🇨🇦 alone! We will be better off without our nosey neighbour to the south and their controlling attitude.
