You may have heard cautionary tales about traveling to Italy in August. It is true that many Italians go on their summer holidays during this month, escaping to the beach or the mountains; as a result, many businesses are "chiuso per ferie" and the streets are empty.  So it came as a bit of a surprise to see that this flea market was definitely hopping!

Having just returned from vacation myself, spending quality time with family and friends back in the US, I was itching to peruse some stalls for all manner of vintage, antique, and secondhand treasures. I remembered that Ovada's Mercatino dell'Antiquariato is held on most public holidays, and since it was Ferragosto (Italy's ultimate summer celebration), we decided to check it out!

(And don't worry, according to my sources 😂, most of the monthly markets appear to be operating on their regular schedules.)

So join me for a leisurely stroll through Ovada's lanes and piazzas, taking time to admire artwork, ceramics, glassware, textiles and other collectibles. I also share a very special family heirloom gifted to me by my godmother during my recent trip.
