I think the minimal wage thing was supposed to make us question the reason why the protagonist would spend 5 nights in such a dangerous place, like he's not doing that for the money so why would he stay? I mean now we (kinda) know why, but back then it was an important question

4:23 Secret of the Mimic did establish that they are in the habit of hiring teenagers. Granted, that was for performers, not security, but if he's still using a fake name I doubt anyone cares to question it.

I know this video has nothing to do with the retcon but recently I've been thinking what if the retcon was when fnaf 1 takes place? I know that sounds wild since we don't even know when it takes place but if we take the first game as Scott's final time in the ring before fnaf popped off and saved him, FNAF 1 is pretty self enclosed and really gives heavy satirical viibes. The bad out dated pay is basically satire on how companies will pay you pennies to risk your life and you keep coming back because you need it. Phone guy defending the company by saying that when Fazbear cleans up your inevitable death, that it's nothing bad. Hell the pinkslip literally is your reward for going above and beyond and you're rewarded for being fired and basically called a stinky, sweaty nerd for it. The retro vibes of the place and being so old and decaying is basically satire on the fact no one goes to pizza arcades anymore, not to mention phone guy's comments on the animatronics being old as hell. This in my opinion really tells me that fnaf 1 took place in the year fnaf 1 was released, the modern day at the time, but as it popped off and theories began to be created. What was once an enclosed story, Scott found a way to add on to it and changed the speculation date by giving hints of when FNAF 1 takes place that fit with the public perception (Thanks Matpat).

In "The Week Before", when Ralph revealed that him and his very young daughter, Coppelia, are both mega film and pop-culture nerds and own a *SEGA Genesis*, I was absolutely SHOCKED that there was NO mention of Sonic The Hedgehog. The way they talk about every mega 80s action movie with a cut-off point of 1989, AND they own a SEGA Genesis, a console released in 1989, but don't bring up Sonic, a game that released in 1991 with Sonic games included with the console after 1993, paints a pretty clear picture of why they aren't talking about Sonic yet. I even ctrl+F'd the entire book for THE WORD SONIC, even in the context of sounds. And nothing came up.

And I do need to linger on this for a sec because people REALLY don't know how big a deal Sonic was 30 years ago. McDonald's toys; bigger sales than Nintendo cuz the console was cheaper; games just about every year; spin-offs; 3 entirely separate cartoons; two separate anime OVAs (STH:OVA, and Man Of The Year); the Macy's Day parade float; the Michael FREAKING Jackson collab on Sonic 3; I really could go on. Sonic was THE video game icon of the 90s. If this was any year after 1991 Coppelia, and thus Ralph when recollecting her or things she's said to him; or even the games they play together as Sonic 2 and 3 had multiplayer, neither of them would ever shut up about this stupid rat the exact way I don't. Even if Coppelia doesn't like Sonic, the fact there isn't some kind of open resentment expressed towards the character I would find impossible to believe if Sonic was around at the time. If you wanna bring up the book itself getting sued, SEGA is famously lax with the Sonic IP. Sonic Mania wouldn't exist if they weren't so chill. But, beyond that, the book brings up characters, movie titles, and even Disney. If they were concerned about litigation, Ralph and Coppelia wouldn't reference ANYTHING; especially some of the movies they bring up that are now owned by Disney.

Since there isn't a clean explanation for why Ralph or Coppelia simply don't care about Sonic enough to think about him, the only explanation I can come up with for why Sonic doesn't get a mention is that this is either 1989 or 1990, before Sonic existed.
