Have you ever met someone who can make you explode with just a single sentence, whose attitude can affect you for the entire day?
We often say, "I act this way because he did it first!"
But the question is, when someone else's foolishness begins to dictate your reaction, who is truly controlling you?
In 1 Samuel 24, David, facing Saul's pursuit, still chose to restrain himself; but in chapter 25, Nabal's insult caused David to immediately order everyone to "take up their swords," preparing for revenge.
Why didn't a greater crisis defeat him, but a single sentence caused him to lose control?
Often, today's events hurt so much because they touch upon wounds from yesterday that haven't healed.
Perhaps it was rejection, being ignored, being humiliated, or being disrespected;
And when these wounds aren't treated, we easily respond in the wrong way.
This message reminds us:
Don't make important decisions when you're hurt.
Don't let the foolishness of others determine who you become.
And don't let those who love you pay the price for those who hurt you.
When your reaction is particularly strong, stop and ask yourself:
What are my true feelings?
Why does this hurt me so much?
What am I planning to do because of this hurt?
What should I do now to truly be wise?
You can't control whether you encounter a "Nabal" in your life,
but you can decide not to become foolish yourself because you met a foolish person.
Bring your wounds to God,
let Him restore and heal us,
so that we are no longer simply driven by emotions,
but instead choose to become the person God has called us to be.
