This is a form of ultrasonic levitation know as squeeze film levitation or near filed acoustic levitation.

I thought about powering it off a battery and doing air hockey that way but, well, that was hard in also sorts of novel ways.

Uhhh, Bob our torpedoes keep missing can you find out why?
-sure
so Bob, did you find out why?
-no, but I can levitate stuff now...

For anyone who wants to know the reason of the torpedo guidance failure, it was due to the transducer separating from its mount as it pushed against the lens/glass on the torpedo tip. As it pushed against the glass it misaligned with its mounts, the solution was a mount with a damper tuned to the oscillation from the sensor vibrating in its mount. Amazing Engineering

Dolphins be like "Stop shouting, you're hurting my melon."

The torpedo unfortunately didn't know where it wasn't so it couldn't know where it was

The use of the smoke under the glass was an incredibly great way of showing what was going on - great work!

0:35 "Can you figure out why our torpedoes keep missing?"

"Best I can do is a novel form of levitation."

the veritasium animations were a bit of a flashbang, I'm guessing Electrify Video Partners has also bought this channel? I hope they don't substitute him unless he's overworking himself

The discovered node-line problem on your hockey table is the same as low-frequency issues in-room in sound reproduction. Driving two transducers 90° out of phase to produce traveling waves rather than standing ones, is actually the same principle behind subwoofer setups in hi-fi acoustics, where multiple subs are placed and time-delayed to minimize room modes by encouraging wave travel rather than standing. The goal in both cases is the same: eliminate dead spots by preventing stable interference patterns from forming.

0:20 you forgot about throwing yourself at the ground and missing

Ultrasonic cleaning? Clearly it can't remove Mould.

That's awesome! You figured most things on your own, I wish I could be of more help. I have my transducers after a few weeks of ordering, now If I can get a studio and tools and start testing!

Let's all just appreciate, that Steve created a superconductor just for a 2 second demonstration

It levitates the same way that you keep yourself from sinking in mud. Neat

@Tigrou7777 5 months ago

Honestly, when you started talking about table hockey, I thought you were going to use those transducers as hockey pucks (for example, with a battery on top of them)
