Dear Sir Clark, I am deeply grateful for your courses; they have been of great help to me. Thank you, Natalia. Indeed, Christo Javacheff was born in the small town of Gabrovo, located high in the Balkan Mountains. This geographic position helped protect the town during the Ottoman period. Despite the long Ottoman occupation, a Bulgarian cultural renaissance emerged there, accompanied by early capitalist development and industrialization. Gabrovo, often called “the Bulgarian Manchester,” became a thriving center of textile production.Christo’s father, Vladimir Javacheff, ran a textile factory, and his mother, Tsiana Javacheff, was a secretary at the Gabrovo Academy of Fine Arts. After the Communist takeover in 1945, the family’s factory was nationalized, and they were persecuted as members of the bourgeois class. While not every source specifies that they were sent to a labor camp, there is clear evidence of social repression and loss of property, consistent with this period’s history.
i’ve been to the sun tunnels twice! I’ve also been to the spiral jetty 4 times now. one of my favorite trips i’ve done is when i saw them both in the same day it was a long drive but the views and the experience of it all was amazing
I got to experience The Gates. It was so lighthearted and joyful!! Have also seen Goldsworthy’s Storm King Wall many times. It’s a favorite and actually goes through the pond and resumes on the other side
I'm going to uni in the Netherlands and using your lectures to study for my western art history course. Thank you so much for putting these online! I hope I'll be able to impress my professor during my exam :)
My God this Michael Heizer piece is incredible. As someone who is (an appreciator!) a musical Avant Garde-ist of the first order....this piece by MH is exactly on par with musical Avant Garde-ism! Thank you TLC for another Master Work presentation!!
Heifer work will freak out archaeologists in the year 5000. What does it mean, where did all tho people go without a trace, how could they make this, was it aliens?
Christo or Christo Vladimirov Yavachev is a BULGARIAN, not Romanian artist. Born in Gabrovo. Although he did not like to talk about his nationality and his Bulgarian roots, he was a Bulgarian immigrant who fled socialist Bulgaria to the west so that he could make free art.
