Which thing from the 1980s that you forgot you grew up with suddenly brought a memory rushing back, and what was life like for you when that was part of your everyday world?

The '80s were the last decade where kids could disappear all day and come home when the streetlights came on. Who else misses those days?

My maternal female relatives used to wrap the lids only, and they came off easily. We called it a “Baltimore wrap”, and I haven’t seen it done anywhere else!

On Christmas morning, my brother and I saw how early we could get up and go downstairs to the tree. We could explore the contents of our stockings, but no wrapped gifts could be opened until 6am, when our parents got up. Then they’d come down in their bathrobes, my dad would screw in the lightbulbs so our window candles burned bright in the sunlight, clouds, or rain, and we’d play with our gifts until our maternal grandparents arrived around 9 for show and tell!

Many of these toys & foods are from the 60's & 70's. My parents bought many of them for all of us. Hard to believe the manufactures caused us such heartache later in life.

Gen X... coolest thing your Dad ever assembled was your SWING SET!! Ohhh... to feel that huge metal piped monster pop off the ground if you swung too high... PRICELESS!! 🤣🤣🤣

I’m in bed right now with my Pound Puppy. I’ve had him since I was 9. I just turned 51. He has hard eyes and most of the paint is worn off. I can’t sleep well if he’s not near by 😌

You got me in the feels with the Merry Christmas Charlie Brown segment. Even though I'm Jewish...still watching that brings back memories.

OMGosh, that Christmas morning rule! We couldn't start Christmas until 7am, when my granny had had her coffee!

@AlisaOrrDaisy 6 months ago

We were allowed to 'open' our stockings, with gifts from Santa while parents slept, and we waited for "Christmas to start", after a special breakfast. Most of my childhood memories are definitely not golden, but so very many Christmas memories are.

I remember a lot of these in my childhood home So many memories ❤

This is the kind of nostalgia that actually hits. What's funny is that back then, most of these things felt completely ordinary. Now they're little time capsules that instantly bring back memories. Makes me wonder what kids today will be nostalgic about 40 years from now.

The moon boots I had were from the 50s and 60s. They had steel coil springs which would sometimes not compress evenly and you would twist or break an ankle.

I don't miss the smoking everywhere. Even as a kid I hated that smell

My relatives were auto mechanic and auto body care. I know a lot of things about car parts.

Loved the shrinky dinks. We had to remember to punch a hole to make necklace or bracelet charms.

We had 3 blow dryers go on fire.

I never eat seafood, fish. Yuck.

I never eat bread with butter or margarine. I only eat plain biscuits , italian bread,or rolls.

As a crafter now, I really can appreciate all the stuff my grandmother crochet for me. Sadly I tossed most of it.

I still remember at our grandparents house, there are tons and tons a presents under their tree. I swore they were rich. And then the day rolled on and as if it was an eternity. We couldn't open those damn presents until after dinner! 🍽️
