I spent the Christmas from hell serving with the British army in Londonderry in 1975-1976, where I spent my 21st birthday, which I have never forgotten, I lost count of how many bricks and petrol bombs were thrown at us in riot after riot, culminating with large parts of the Bog Side and the bus station going up in flames with petrol bombs, bricks and small arms fire being directed at us, cars were also set on fire and combined with all the smoke, it was like a scene out of Dante's Inferno.
We had men killed and injured on that tour, and I saw things that were the stuff of nightmares.
I wish a happy Christmas to all Irish people, peace to you all.

🎅🍗🥩🍽🥂☃🎊🎉

The Troubles were horrendous on both sides. Thank you for your Service Sir.

Great history and footage, please post more Northern Ireland stuff, i grew up during it, it's my history as well

Thankfully my family lived out in the suburbs so we didn't experience the troubles daily.  My late father's profession was to deal with the aftermath of many victims of the troubles which eventually had an impact on him to change employment after 25 years.  Thank you to all who served here...sadly it was a war that caused divide (still ongoing to this day to some extent and peace walls still exist in 2025),  so much death and maiming and left people broken.  We must never return to these dark times!

15:08  not a fan of Gerry but he has a point here that can be applied to today, the narrative painting in the media on behalf of the government is so clear now more than ever

Another fine upload.

Ann Ogilby RIP (32 year old mother of four from Co Tyrone murdered in 1974)

Good viewing that.
Thank you.

In 1969 at a very young age I was walking the Pennine Way with a group of other soldiers, we turned on our transister  radio and heard the BBC news - "members of XXPara Regt are  on standby to deploy to NI, I rang my Sgt-major on a "cross-button" b" Red Phone box, , I said to my Sgt-major "hello Sir are we on standby"?? He said "get your arse back here", I arrived back on a Friday to be told we wont go, by Sunday we were there, dont worry it will only be a few weeks - 30 years later ...  However, I met some of the most decent people from both sides of the community, I remember Bombay Street and the Shankill, well !! I served for over 30 years in the British Army -worldwide

We the innocent children and parents  suffered through hell during the troubles. Most suffer from PTSD. Im one of them. Im glad them days are over and there is peace here now.

We gained a semblance of normality and now there’s a new invasion

That wee girl saying she lost ‘her first daddy’ :(

Gerry …..I was never in the RA …yeah

Great reporting. Gerry Adam’s spoke that he wanted the British out of Ireland, and I support what he said.
Paisley used his honorary doctorate with gusto, however he never studied for. Ph.D. He founded his own church and funded and enabled Protestant terrorism. There was terrorism on all three sides (catholic, Protestant, and state sponsored). The British forces were not protectors, they actively enabled and supported loyalist terrorism.

From the North of Ireland thankfully my son doesn't have to grow up in a war zone like my generation did.

First! Merry Christmas to all Irish.

Look at Sinn Fein now, destroying Ireland

Much love and respect from Argentina to the Irish people 💪
