In 1967, when I was 17, I had just graduated and received my draft notice. I was planning to enlist anyway, so it didn't matter to me. I genuinely believed that Uncle Sam was doing important work in Vietnam, but that illusion faded after a few weeks on the ground. There was nothing glorious about war; it was just men who didn’t know each other trying to kill one another. However, as a generation, we had hope; we lived in the greatest and most prosperous nation on earth, where anything seemed possible. Today, I’ve noticed an abnormal and baseless kind of hostility among people, which may stem from a sense of hopelessness. I'm an old man with a terminal illness, and I still love life and have a great deal of hope for humanity in my heart.

Our generation had the best music.. Still love it today..

Having lived through this, have not seen a more accurate overall assessment.  It ended, but it never left inside of us.

I was 19 in '67, living in SoCal. No question,  we were the most spoiled generation until that time. Everything was so easy. Babysat through highs school, saving half. Graduated with enough $$$ for an effing used car. Was lucky to have homemaker as a Mom & she truly made it an art form.

Best memory is the music. Worst is Vietnam. Then came 1968, with the assinations of MLK, Jr., RFK, and the Tet Offensive. Good video.

I was a teen in that era of history, it was different, in very good way! The music was fantastic!

I lived in NYC during the hippie experience
Unfortunately Love has been replaced  with hate in recent years
America has turned itself into a nation of adversaries
Greed is the religion
My memories of life in the 60'a & early 70's are my joy.
May life provide you an abundance of love ,peace, & happiness

Born in '49, this was an amazing time to live through, and be involved in.

My Grandma was a "Flapper" - Mom was a "Beatnik"  - I was a Flower-child ... and
We 3 Loved the same stuff ☮️❤️🤍💙

I was a 19 year old soldier in Vietnam in the summer of '67. I was unaware of the love.

In 1967, when I was in college, buses were driving around Richmond with big signs on their sides reading "We've Come For Your Daughters", words that perfectly captured the fears of an entire nation. What innocence! At 76, after years of reflection and An Autobiographical Inquisition of 806 pages, I realize how much of that innocence has been lost and will never be seen again.

Those were wise words from Jim Morrison, looking at it with hindsight. Something I hadn't expected of him till now.

Morrison was spot on in that interview clip.

The BEST ERA EVER! great music and everything that went with it. I miss those days!

Surprisingly, I think Jim Morrison summed it up best, observing the naivete of hippies wanting to step backward, when what we needed to do was find a way to survive and thrive as the world around us continued to industrialize and computerize. I'm not used to finding much wisdom or stability in Mr. Mojo Risin, although I love the music The Doors put out.

I was 13 that summer. My sister, at 15, was primed for all of it. I tagged along on her experience of the Summer Of Love, mainly for all the fantastic new music. After taking as much LSD as I could bet my hands on in the ‘70s, I emerged intact, but with a deeper understanding of the world and how people interact, thrive, or fall apart. I saw a lot of my young friends go way too far, and end up broken or dead.
Feeling fortunate, now, to still call myself an “Ancient Hippie”, but with a deeper understanding of the world, and our place in it.

I was 11 so,  I basically was observing the change from a safe distance.  One thing for
certain,  it he music of the time was awesome!

Having come of age during this period of time I can only express the horror and disappointment in today's culture. I'm grateful that I'm 73 and have no children. I don't see a lot of promise in the future.

I was only 5 or 6. My older sister was 9 and absolutely fell hook, line, and sinker for the “summer of love” ethos. It clashed terribly with my Sicilian immigrant father’s hopes and dreams for his family, creating an indelible rift in my family that persisted for decades.  He knew poverty and lack of security first hand.  It broke his heart that his daughter didn’t give two ——s.  I saw her go completely off the rails as a teen, into drugs and smoking, dropping out of school, pregnant at 16, marrying a troubled guy.  I saw this and how many musicians died from drug overdoses, and it shaped my view of the whole movement.  My extended family somewhat broke during and after it. But eventually, it went back to its Italian roots, trying to keep alive the traditions of hard honest work, community, family cohesion, love, and of course, good healthy Mediterranean food in abundance. A college education followed by marriage and family was the brass ring for whoever could handle it, and it remains so to this day - even as they embraced newness like same sex marriage. (One gay relative and her wife attend Roman Catholic services and are welcomed by their fellow parishioners.)  My sister?  Divorced.  Next to homeless.  Years fighting addiction.  Her children resent her.  It’s funny that for a brief period when she did enjoy what she had, it looked a lot like the 1950s scene at the dinner table.  We scoff now, and it did need to change, but it’s what we wanted all along: the peace and security of a steady income, home, family, friends, community, and love.  Not a Pleasant Valley Sunday of sameness or keeping up with the Joneses, but also not pan handling and wondering who the father of your child was.  And definitely able to speak out against an unjust war. Unfortunately, we’re back there again.  🤷🏽

God, Jim Morrison hit the nail on the head in that interview clip

I'm a 71 year old Hippie! Suppose They Gave a War and Nobody Came?!?!?😢❤
