Nice concept for a video.  I always tell people to buy the MTH Pullman cars.  That way, they can run them with any Locomotive.

I’m with you I’m a fan of the 18” cars. MTH is a great way to get affordable cars to pull behind any locomotive! Great video Art!

Great points, Art!! We’re on the same page for a lot of this.  So how many sets do you have now? 😅

Classy!

Yeah I got plenty myself between MTH Railking & KLine, 2 nyc sets, 1 blue comet set with another on order, one alton lmd, one crescent lmd, one sp daylight, and one up 😅

Thanks for sharing😁

I enjoyed this video. I've been into O scale for over 20 years and was strictly freight only. Only now have I realized I've been missing out. I haven't owned any passenger car. I'm now looking for some MTH 70' cars to add to my layout. Specifically Reading & Northern because I have 2102 on order. I know MTH made them. They are hard to find.

I concur on the 21" passenger cars looking "off", for lack of a better term.  It's one of those things you can't put your finger on as to why, it just is.
Personally I like the MTH RailKing cars, the length is just right for the look I want, even the cars made for the "Bantam" starter sets look good in my opinion.  Williams passenger cars, typically in the 15" range are good looking and are good deals as well.
Good choice on those NYC heavyweights!  Not only do you have long-distance trains covered with them but you've got commuter operations covered as well.  I've got some NYC heavies for when I feel like doing the old West Shore.
Thanks for posting Art!

My Layout is smaller than yours being 9' x 6' with O-36 Curves. My Passenger Trains consist of 4 Cars because more than that would be too long for my train station. My Road Names are New York Central and Pennsylvania (with a Madison Set and a Stream line set of each). An Amtrak Stream Line and an Amtrak Genesis). I recently picked up a James E. Strates Show Passenger set. Like you I load the cars up with passengers.

I'm also a fan of the MTH passenger cars. The level of detail for the price is great ❤

This was a good Video Art! I’ve been intrigued by those 18 inch passenger Cars for my Lionel 777 Commodore Vanderbilt. Like how i am with freight cars, I to make sure that the size matches appropriately with the size of the locomotive

My RR is the B&O: there are three short consist trains that I follow:
1) The Washingtonian, Trains 21/22: Baltimore - Cleveland; typical consist: P7 President Class Pacific
1/2 baggage/express
1 RPO
1 Combine
1/2.  12 window oaches*
1 club car

*at times an Erie/NYC coach added to consist
After steam: route truncated to three RDC (one RDC-2 and two RDC-1s).

2) Train 223: Pittsburgh - Cincinnati/Louisville; typical consist:
P7 President Class Pacific
1 baggage express
1 RPO
1 combine
1 Club car

Note: additional cars as needed: 12-1 sleeper; baggage express cars

3) The Cinicinatian: Baltimore - Cincinnati the Detroit - Cincinnati:;
typical consists:
President Class P7d streamlined Pacific
1 baggage-crew combine
two 60 seat coach
one 56 seat coach
one cafe-observation

Note:
- cars shorter than regular passenger equipment.
- RPO added later

Overall notes:
The P7/P7d painted BandO blue

Passenger F3a and f3b phase-2 diesels planned - may or may not have been assigned.

As you can see each of these trains are modeler friendly.
Some trains ere listed in MRR and in B&O HS publications;  all trains listed on Wikipedia.

Glad to know you can still get nice passenger cars for less than 100 per car!

I buy MTH 18 inch used passenger cars as well! Great video!

Totally agree on the MTH passenger cars value for the money. I use their RailKing 60 footers with Railking locos and the 70 footer Premier with Premier locos. I even have their shorties.

I couldn’t agree with you more Art! I don’t like the 21” passenger cars. They are just too big for my layouts. Great video! 👍

Good video Art! I like the MTH passenger cars I’ve been buying them for myself also. Much more affordable for a nice product!

Very nice, Art!  Those are some sweet passenger cars and they look great, running on your layout.  I've always said that size matters on layouts.  You need to get cars that don't look too big, which make a layout look smaller than it is.  The 21" passenger cars look out of place on most layouts, even bigger ones.  A ten car set, with locomotives can stretch almost 24 feet, when adding the gap between cars.  That would take-up the entire length of my layout.  As you said, 18" is the best way to go.  They fit well, don't overpower a layout and make the train look like it belongs.  Since I run mostly post-war and MPC, most of my cars are in the 14 to 16 inch range and they are perfect for what I run.  An excellent video, as always.

Great video Art! I have a ton of passenger sets. As my layout is small, I stay with smaller sized cars - 15” or less. Even the 15” cars look a bit big on my little layout though. I generally buy RTR sets and flesh them out with add-ons but that’s not a hard and fast rule. If I can get a reasonably priced group of cars then I’ll go for it. As for the number of cars in a consist, I find that seven-eight cars looks the best although I have a couple of trains that are like eleven cars long.

Go Big Art! In fact, Art I wanna see 86 inch Lionel Box  cars on your Layout 🚂🚂🚂😂😂 Looks Good Brother 👍
