This movie has the biggest UP in all of Star Trek. It introduces us to the sexiest starship Starfleet has ever put into service. The Refit constitution class USS   ENTERPRISE NCC 1701, no bloody A,B,C or D.

Sean said they're doing all the films with maybe a surprise thrown in. I think they're gonna up and down Galaxy Quest!

I hope we get an Ups and Downs video for every Star Trek movie.

The trip around the Enterprise in drydock that some say takes too long was a love letter to the fans who'd only ever seen it in a tiny, tiny black-and-white TV.

100% agreed on that dilithium up!  Watching the reveal of the refit Enterprise, on the big screen, was a true joy for my childhood self.

"Spock is told he will not seek what he finds on Vulcan"

Thank-you, Sean. You channelled my grandma perfectly with that one.

One thing about Jerry Goldsmith "March" thats become the Star Trek theme. When Goldsmith played his main score to Roddenberry, Roddenberry looked at him "Thats it? where is the fire, the majestic, the grandious? Do something else and do it NOW." According to an interview (if i find it, i link it) Goldsmith was in a kind of panic and said "Well i have this piece, i ve written for a wedding" He put the LP onto the player and it started with the now iconic DAAA, DA DA DAAA, DA DA DA DA DAAA DAAA DAAA  Rodenberry looked at him "Thats it! Thats it" TBF you can still hear that wedding march in it.

Holy cow! All these years and I never knew that was Mark Leonard as a Klingon. Mind blown!

One of the cool trek tidbits is that crewman who milks the neckpinch also played the "Don't get smart, Tiny" guard in ST3

My wife saw this for the first time with me recently. I described it as “people expected Star Wars, and go 2001 A Space Odyssey.” Going into it with that idea (more cerebral) she loved it.

My favorite Star Trek movie, no contest!

Retro up and downs return YES!!

Goldsmith's Leaving Drydock lives rent free in my head.

I love the crystalline blue/silver warp core of the Enterprise refit, it really looks like it's doing dilithium-y things in it.

My experience of this film transformed when I stopped watching it like Wrath of Khan and started watching it like 2001. I completely agree that it's maybe the purest expression of Trek and I wish they would chase the experience of this movie for once, instead of Wrath of Khan.

@29:03 "...a little less LDS heavy..."  - nice!  😆

I was 13 when this came out. I was already a Star Trek fan and I loved it.

To put it into perspective, In December 1979, I was 19 years old I was standing third in line, in the biter cold of Edmonton Canada, frantically reading the last few pages of the Novel which had only came out days earlier, before stepping into the warmth of the theater and being able to procure the best seat. It was glorious, Star Trek was back, Thank you Sean for taking me down memory Lane.

It is nice to know someone else acknowledges this film as a work of art.

saw it in theaters, and seeing the cast back together was pure bliss. Great film, pure trek, no matter what others say. Science fiction that doesn’t need to blow stuff up to be fun and engaging.
