On July 9, 2026, the second event of the second season of “Authors meet Authors: Cinema as a Form of Thinking," took place at the cinema of Vila 31 - Art Explora, in Tirana.
This video features the full recording of the conversation between directors Fatmir Koçi and Dea Gjinovci, who discussed Tirana, Year Zero (2001) and Wake Up on Mars (2020) through the concept of inverted migratory experiences. Koçi’s Tirana, Year Zero portrays post-communist Albania from the perspective of those who dream of leaving and those who insist on staying. By contrast, Gjinovci’s documentary Wake Up on Mars begins precisely where this journey is usually expected to end, presenting arrival not as a resolution, but as a state of suspension, bureaucratic limbo, and continued displacement. Through a dialogue between fiction and documentary, the two directors reflected on how their distinct cinematic languages illuminate a broad emotional and psychological spectrum of migratory experiences that are both inverted and complementary, exploring the (im)possibility of departure and arrival.
Authors meet Authors: Cinema as a Form of Thinking (season 2) is produced by Artalb Film Productions, supported by the Albanian Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, in partnership with Vila 31 - Art Explora.
