==========

Should you eat peanut butter every day after 60? Scientists tested it. In a six-month study published in 2026, 120 adults ages 66 to 89 ate about three tablespoons of natural peanut butter a day, and they got faster at standing up from a chair. It didn't make them stronger or add muscle. It improved something called muscle power, which is how fast you can use the strength you have. In this video I walk through what the study found and what it didn't, which peanut butter jar to buy, how to eat it every day without gaining weight, and the exact chair test the researchers used so you can check your own legs at home.

WHAT THE PEANUT BUTTER STUDY FOUND
Researchers at Deakin University split 120 adults over 65 who were at risk of falling into two groups. Half ate 43 grams of natural peanut butter a day, about three tablespoons and about 10 grams of protein, for six months. The other half kept living as usual. The peanut butter group finished five chair stands about 1.2 seconds faster than the other group and improved their muscle power, without gaining weight. Walking speed, grip strength, leg strength, and muscle size did not change more than in the other group. The study was funded by the Peanut Institute Foundation, which the researchers say had no role in the design, analysis, or results.

STRENGTH VS. POWER AFTER 60
Strength is how much you can lift. Power is how fast you can use that strength. Power is what gets you up from a low couch, out of the car, and what helps you catch yourself when you trip. As we get older, we tend to lose power faster than strength, which is why it matters so much for staying independent after 60.

WHICH PEANUT BUTTER TO BUY
A study that followed more than 120,000 men and women in the Netherlands found that eating nuts or peanuts was linked to a lower risk of dying during the study, but peanut butter was not. The researchers pointed to added salt, vegetable oils, and trans fats in some peanut butter. Look for a short ingredient list: peanuts, and maybe salt. In the video I compare two jars from the same Publix shelf.

HOW TO EAT PEANUT BUTTER EVERY DAY WITHOUT GAINING WEIGHT
Two tablespoons is about 190 to 200 calories, so swap it in instead of piling it on: stir it into oatmeal instead of brown sugar, spread it on whole wheat toast instead of butter and jelly, or pair it with apple slices instead of cookies or chips.

PEANUTS AND YOUR HEART
A Vanderbilt study of more than 200,000 people found that those who ate the most peanuts had a 17 to 21 percent lower risk of dying during the study and a 23 to 38 percent lower risk of dying from heart disease. That kind of study shows a connection, not proof.

THE CHAIR TEST
Sit in a sturdy chair against a wall, cross your arms, and stand up and sit down five times as fast as you safely can while someone times you. Write your number down and test again in a month. Tell me your age and your time in the comments.
