I own number 234, and a friend has number 235 from this run of Ordinance Rifles. A few things, the screw and balls should be lubricated. You can also load then prime with the cast off powder in one step loading rather than priming then loading separately.

Don't care about furniture makers, Accraglass is king!

Super interesting design. Have never seen basically a falling block rifle but with a twist/screw action before. I know not exactly the same thing but close enough.

I think I want one, but then I want one of everything

Hi Mark, I notice that the ignition on your rifle was VERY slow....
Looking at an original Ferguson, the vent seems to be drilled at quite an angle. Looks like it would miss the breech screw altogether, unlike the repro.
It's rather surprising that a maker as thorough as Durs Egg would have not seen fit to mount the lock a 1/4" or more further forward; although perhaps the vent would be overly long then due to the large amount of metal in he barrel at that point. Short vents are the secret to fast ignition, as Manton found out very early in the piece, so we may have a "rock and hard place" dilemma here. I think I could design a lock that would avoid this issue and put the pan and vent more towards the front of the powder chamber, so it's a bit of a puzzle why the Fergy was made this way. I have toyed with the idea of making one of these rifles, but it would be a LOT of work... 🙂

A trick when drill in wood, to keep the drill at target, is to spinn the drillbit backwards first, it doesn't walk as much as if you start forward

A very cogent remark on furniture versus gun stock stresses.

You damn right that was sporty .

Weren’t some of the later Ferguson rifles  percussion?

I had no idea such stock repairs were possible.  Always interesting content and thanks for your dedication to the craft.

My new Ferguson is waiting at the post office. Assemble is required so it's going to be an adventure...but I can't wait!
I'm wondering about using accuglass on this new rifle as a preventative measure.

Mark, I enjoyed the video. I just bought a parts set for one of these rifles. Does the flash channel go through the screw breech like an L shape, comming out at the back of the powder chamber or does it run along the outside of the screw? Mine is not pre drilled. Thanks

An engineer's dream, a manufacturers nightmare.  Are you sure this wasn't designed by a German rather than a Scotsman?

It’s crazy! I never knew such a thing even existed.

Louis L'Amour wrote a book titled "The Ferguson Rifle". Read it many years ago.

You really need to change your call sign to,  "got balls"!  Or  "Starts grass fires with muzzle loaders."  I really enjoy your videos.  Thank you, Sir!

I read Louis L'Amour "The Fergus Rifle" in my mid-twenties. I've been fascinated by the design ever since. Thanks for this video!

Your channel should have millions of subscribers. Seriously.

I agree CIGAR time😀😀😀

Thank you for explaining the differences between the forces involved. My friends who do woodworking all day I use overkill in my stock repairs, but at the end of the day, the forces accumulated in stock are exponentially greater than the stresses a chair sees.
I have started using forged carbon fiber rod for reinforcement. The strength factor is comparable to steel and it doesn't effect balance as much. Carbon + epoxy is a similar weight to the wood that was drilled.
