I'm living in a homless hostel at 58yrs. We get vegetables fruits past there sell by date. I noticed it all getting binned.  I made a fruit crumble with custard or evaporated milk.  It fed 20 people. This week garlic cheese potatoe bake.  I'm teaching the kids to budget cook. Best positive of a crap situation.  ❤x   pizza next x

I suspect that the mixing time for the dry goods is so long because when it is for 100 servings, they want to make sure all the ingredients are distributed well.

I was in High School in the early 1950's. They served things like "Spanish Rice" made with canned condensed tomato soup and rice, extra milk in the soup; "toasted cheese sandwiches",  bread toasted on sheet pans, then processed cheese slices on top, and placed back in the oven to melt the cheese. No toast on top, just an open faced "sandwich". NO butter or anything else. The menu was posted for the week, so I only ate the cafeteria food on the days it looked  fairly good, the rest of the time I made my own lunch. After the 10th grade, we were allowed (special permission needed) to eat away from the cafeteria. I was allowed to go to my grandmothers house for lunch since she lived near the school. We only had 1/2 hour for lunch, then had to be back for the second 1/2 hour of the lunch period to go to the auditorium to watch 20 minutes of a serial movie and hear announcements. . There were nearly 200 people in my class, so we were divided into "A"  and "B" sections at lunch time; "A" had lunch and then watched the movie, "B" watched the movie and then ate lunch. The sections were divided alphabetically but from "A"  to  "N"  and  "O"  to  "Z" due to  heavy grouping in the  "R", "S", "T",  and  "W"  names. I feel sorry, now, for the school secretary we had then. She had a hard way to go, keeping up with all of us. lol

I just want to thank you for all your videos,  my husband doesn't watch many of my videos,  as they are mostly cooking/ food videos,  but he always asks if I have watched yours yet, and we always watch them together ❤️  Thank you for that, he loves history,  and enjoys your take on it, and some of your faces you make after tasting some of the dishes. 😂😅.
We learn so much!! Thank you again!!

Love the smile with that first bite of school lunch pizza. I think we got a glimpse of 12 year old Max there.

I was 6 in 1963 and in my school we had the square pizza and it was everyone's favorite,  one of the worst things we got was lime jello with grapefruit inside

There was a period in my childhood where the milk came in strange-shaped bags that you stabbed with a sharp straw, but it wasn't transparent. It was like a prism when you looked at it from one side, but when you turned it around it wasn't. It was a geometric phenomenon. Anybody remember that?

The best thing our elementary lunch ladies made was peanut butter cookies. They used a quarter cup measure to scoop them, they were pretty big and you could smell them baking all morning

I was an exchange student from Thailand in the early 1990s and attended a school in Washington State. The square pizza was a strange favorite! In Thailand pizzas were a luxury.

I used to love the days when there were those fresh rolls for lunch. You could smell them raising all morning, then the smell of baked rolls wafted up the stairs through lunch. Oh, and fried chicken day! I miss that so much.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this format. You're so cute when you're slightly tipsy. 😂❤😅

I recently read a book, "Surviving Rome:the economic luves of the 90%".

It mentions garum several times and it just occured to me this channel is the only reason I knew what it was talking about.

I hype channel whenever I see a new upload. More eyes on the earlier years content! Happy Monday Max and Jose.

We had the chocolate milk bags for about a year, must have been around '94-'96. We'd save them for recess and throw them against the brick building and watch them explode!

I feel like you should have opened the milk carton the old fashion way by opening the carton top.  They did not have the fancy new round plastic opening yet in the 80s.

Pro-tip - when cooking in celcius we tend to use whole 10s in temp settings... so 220º or 180ºC... not 218º or 175ºC

In my high school in the late 90s. *i graduate in 99*. We had no less the 8 vending machines and a actual McDonald's. No not branding, an actual restaurant in a room accross the hall from the main office. Later the changed it to a Subway and then finally took the restaurant out completely and use the room as a gift shop to buy our school branded clothes and accessories.

Also i remember the milk bags when i was in elementary school in the 80s.

For both long-time and new but dedicated fans with any concerns, this channel operates with Max's blessings. You can see that confirmation in the replies to the pinned comment on Maxs recent(at the time of posting this comment) D-Ration video.

I remember bags of milk. I was in 5th grade at Franklin Elementary in Battle Creek, Michigan.  The year was 1975. That was a little before your time, Max, so the change to bags must have happened twice.
