Hip-Hop Head Reacts to Metallica – Master of Puppets (FIRST TIME HEARING THIS MASTERPIECE!)

Today on Good Lucc TV, I’m reacting to the legendary song Master of Puppets by Metallica for the first time!

From the moment the track started, the energy was unreal. The guitar riffs and solos from James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett were absolutely insane, and Lars Ulrich was going crazy behind the drums. The intensity never lets up.

What really stood out to me though was the concept of the song. Even with the fast tempo and aggressive energy, the lyrics tell a dark story about addiction and control, which makes the song deeper than it might seem at first listen. It’s powerful, creative, and honestly kind of tragic when you think about it.

This was an incredible experience and easily one of the most iconic metal songs I’ve heard on this journey.

This song is INSANE. The energy, the solos, the message… everything about *Master of Puppets* is next level. I didn’t expect a song this aggressive to also be about something as serious as addiction.

What Metallica song should I react to next? 👀

Also… is this the greatest Metallica song ever made?

"chop your breakfast on a mirror" is one of the best lyric line ever

Sometimes I get jealous of people who get to listen to this stuff for the first time

The structure of the song is also awesome. Beginning is the jones as the drugs are calling, then the calm as you get your fix, then the anger and regret of the come down, then back to the jones as the Master is calling and laughing at you as the circle is complete.

Side note, Master of Puppets was the first Metal album to be preserved in the Library of Congress for how influential it was in shaping a generation.

This song taught me more about the dangers of drugs than DARE ever did.

That soft melodic part in song to me represent when you took drug and you feel calm, everything is beautiful, but when build up starts that drug is wearing off and you again in need for another fix.

I didn’t truly discover music until the early 90s. I used to listen to this album on cassette in my Walkman on the bus going to school. I would leave it in for months. Metallica were my Beatles. It’s in my DNA. When I hear theses songs it puts me right back on that bus tapping my feet before I got my first drum kit. It’s just such a perfect album. The beginning of Damage Inc with the bass swells makes me cry it’s so beautiful.

Now imagine your friend gives you this tape at school when you’re 14, and you go home to hear this for the first time. They weren’t playing this on the radio.

In 2015, Master of Puppets became the first metal recording to be selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

I am not sure if you noticed, but the music, as in the instruments, are symbolizing the stages of addiction. The beginning is the craving, the ballad is the euphoria from actually getting high, and the build up after is the come down/withdraw, and it starts over again. The never ending cycle. Genius!

This album came out my sophomore year and it was life altering in terms of my musical journey. This album is a 10 from start to end and the times I partied to this, worked out or shot hoops… so so so good

that more mellow breakdown part is when you're riding the high and the fast chaotic solo that follows is when you come crashing down

In all honesty, if envy you for getting to experience this for the first time. I'll never get that experience again but I can vicariously experience it through your first time. So, thank you for that and for taking a real look at metal. This album just turned 40 years old. Metal had bars before bars were bars! I love watching people learn what metal is really all about from hip hop fans, classical music and opera fans; people are always shocked at the depth and artistry.
