If attention is the new currency, focus is wealth

There’s something very dystopian feeling about looking up the definition of “boredom” and getting blasted with five ads.

The wildest thing is: When I put the phone down and have a moment of silence, my brain isn't even able to have normal thoughts for a period of time. It's just random noise, bits of lyrics, phrases from videos or trailers, sounds and voices. It's like when you acidentally look at the sun and, for a few minutes, you see dark spots because your receptors are overloaded. Kind of frightening.

This is honestly the best argument against giving your children iPads. If you aren't creative with a fully formed brain because you're overstimulated and never get to sit and actually think, how do you think it's affecting small children who are still developing?

17:50 honestly i think we're not even entertained nowadays, we're just distracted - yes, there's a difference.

I’m the most creative when my options are limited; too many tools and resources can often paralyze me with possibilities. In order to solve a problem or generate a new way of doing something, my options have to be limited.

Your comment about YouTube having 1,000× the knowledge of the Library of Alexandria is blowing my mind.

turns out "you're always on your phone" was a solid advice from your parents all along

I noticed how reading has really helped me feel more creative, it really is all about feeding your mind the right kind of input

Love the setting of this video. Notepad, no background music, no hyper stimulating edits, just a man speaking facts and writing it down on a notepad for a visual

Did you know Albert Einstein was actually a real person?!?!

This whole time I thought he was just a theoretical physicist.

Somebody said once that doing nothing is highly under-rated. 'Value-added' is really just a market ploy, and people tend to be scared of their own heartbeat so they fill the dead air with stuff. Thanks for this Jon.

Near the end was potentially the best way of saying this. "Deprive your brain of anybody else's thoughts but your own". Love it.

"Apathy's a tragedy and boredom is a crime"

-Bo Burnham

0:11 “my mind’s blank anyways”

0:38 “fictional scientist” lol

Fictional scientist was sarcasm targeted at anyone who doesn’t know who Einstein was.

17:05 "This is not true boredem. This is you being tired. Your brain is fried" i like how he's basicly saying "humanity is fried" bcuz this is what almost everyone's day's look like lol

As someone who draws for a hobby, lacking in creativity really makes you feel like you don't deserve to call yourself an artist and that feeling can really hurt. But you got a point, back at my highest creative days most of my ideas would have came from school, Especially the boring classes I couldn't care enough to pay attention to. But now that im stuck at home, I can acces my phone, tv or my laptop at anytime, creativity becomes even more harder to react.

I really like car rides because it forces me to just think, reading makes me car sick and my cheap earbuds are almost always dead but looking out the window at everything moving by stimulates me enough to keep me entertained while I'm still able to think. Visual stimuli is so underrated lowkey
