21:00 It wasn't explained out loud in the movie, but the montage where Hiccup is building his tail does explain why someone has to be controlling Toothless' tail in order for him to actually fly. If it was extended all the time, he'd be like a paper airplane and only be able to go in one direction- not very far either. His tail needs to be able to bend and turn, in order for him to be able to bend and turn in the air. And Toothless, as smart as he is, does not have the intelligence nor the appendages necessary to control his own tail. They applied actual aircraft and bird physics to this mystical creature, how cool is that!

16:44 Fun fact, if you look carefully, Toothless’s drawing is actually of Hiccup’s face. It’s crude and hard to make out, but it’s there! And it’s so sweet!

16:12 He walks in two legs to mimic Hiccup!! It’s like how he tries to smile and draw. The mimicry is how they show off how smart Toothless is and makes him seem more “human”

"I and I alone control the dragons" he says foreshadowingly

Here’s a fun fact: the whispering death is called such because when it attacks a creature, it digs up through the ground and makes a whispering noise before breaking the surface right under underneath that victims feet.
The inside of their mouths also completely rotate 360° around
One more thing: they can shoot out the spikes on their backs as well. They are basically blind tho

Fun fact: unlike most animated movies, the cast actually recorded some of these scenes together, which is why the chemistry is so good. Lines like "duh duh duh, we're dead" and "thanks for nothing, you useless reptile" were improvised.

24:32 Oh Astrid never hated Hiccup. You can tell when you watch her throughout the movie. She’s the only one who never makes fun of him or bullies him, she actually genuinely feels bad for him. What she hated was the fact that he wasn’t taking the dragon training seriously. Their parents were risking their lives on the war with the dragons and she believe it their job to take up the fight as well.

Danny acting just like future villains in different movies and series is just a canon event at this point, cause it seems to happen EVERY TIME

19:34
“I and I alone speak with the dragons”
So…. Danny is Drago Bludvist

So, the people who DO talk about the “Hiccup wakes up without a leg” scene and the connection that gives him to Toothless, are the people who get really excited to cosplay him… because they get to trick out thier own prosthetic leg.

Like, the physically disabled community LOVES this boy. He is great respresentation in that the struggle with the leg never goes away, but it never holds him back, and he even uses it to his advantage in several scenarios.

You can tell they talked to real amputees when making this character 🥰

Fun fact:
The httyd score is considered by some to be the greatest film score of all time, due to the fact that almost every character and setting has their own theme.

"Most people would leave"
Danny: "MOST PEOPLE ARE CORRECT"

26:11 in Hiccup’s defense he is a 15 year old who is very intimidated by his father. And speaking from experience of have an intimidating father who gets extremely scary when angered, you just spew words out as quickly as possible to try to defuse the situation.

10:08 oh, curious fact: This was actually a mistake, toothless was supposed to appear with his eyes closed, but the director liked it so much that he didn’t change it, oh and the terrible terror? That was Toothless first design.

you were actually 100% right about the point in the movie where hiccup clips on the first version of the tail prototype. Toothless little shimmy wasn’t him realizing that hiccup had created a device to help him fly. It was him realizing that his tail which was unbalanced was now rebalanced back to normal so he tried to take flight. he then realized that hiccup was on him and tried to ditch hiccup because they are not bonded at this point in the movie as you said toothless tolerates hiccup, but they are not friends right now. that scene was quite literally a dragon, realizing that something that was wrong with their body all of a sudden felt right and so he tried to leave.

Bro has GOT to be baiting us with "Is this movie known for its soundtrack" YES. Thats like half the love

Okay, the running bit of 'you just gestured to all of me', Danny: "all the parts he hates" to "all the parts he loves" was really sweet ❤️

20:35 if he could have, Hiccup absolutely would have "just fixed" Toothless' tail. The reason he didn't make a prosthetic that was always open is because it wouldn't have worked and Toothless would've still been handicapped. The tail flap Hiccup makes for him is designed to mimic Toothless's actual tail in how it naturally works. But, since it doesn't have any muscular structure or ligaments, Toothless can't control it himself.

15:37 To answer your question, Toothless shoots explosive plasma blasts. His teeth are retractable so he doesn't blow them out of his mouth when he fires.

Story time! My mom HATES animated tv shows and movies. She thinks they are all childish and not good. I was able to convince her to watch the first HTTYD movie with me because I was super sick that day, she then agreed to watch the other two and was crying at some point during each movie. She still doesn’t like animated movies or tv, but she admits to liking this one specific franchise.
