Vasily Mikhailovich Solntsev lived a long and difficult life. It included everything: three wars and peace, a beloved wife, and now grown children. And now, on the threshold of his eightieth birthday, Captain Solntsev takes stock of his life's journey, recalling his most memorable events and people, as well as his most loyal friends: the wind and the sea, with whom he spent his best days.

Old Santiago in Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" said that "man is not made to suffer defeat. Man can be destroyed, but he cannot be defeated." This same thought runs through Edvard Radzinsky's entire work, "Captain Solntsev." The first novella, which introduced Radzinsky to the general public as a prose writer, was published back in 1969 in the magazine "Yunost." Detailed and colorful descriptions of vivid scenes of nature, people, and their characters immediately elevated the story from a mere text into something special, transforming the reader into a spectator. Don't miss the audio version of this work, astonishing in its beauty and drama, narrated by Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Sergeevich Bordukov.
