In 1990, Chevy released the most WILD Corvette of all time to compete with the top dogs in the sports car market - the C4 ZR1. Powered by a 5.7L quad cam V8 designed by Lotus, and build by Mercury Marine, this 405hp rocket would to 175mph with no problem at all. Will this budget ripper be all it's cracked up to be? That this ZR-1 was flogged so much, that it had a cage at one point, that it looks like it does, and that it has as many miles on it, tells me this thing was loved.

The endurance sticker is for the world record the ZR-1 held for averaging 175 mph for 24 hrs. I believe that record stands today

In 1991 I was 15 years old and my best friend/neighbor's dad was editor of muscle car magazine. He was given a blue ZR1 to do a photo shoot out with a cobra 427.. we went to Englishtown raceway and did the comparison, but the 427 Cobra was highly modified, so they didn't put it in the magazine. My friend (6'4" Peter fit well)brought the ZR1 home to the Poconos for the weekend and totally terrorized our mother's as he picked up a couple of us one at a time and layed giant rubber throughout the closed communities. One of my favorite memories. RIP Peter. C. Sessler

I bought a 1994 ZR-1 ….405 hp back in 2012. Sent it to Mark Hibeck in Chicago To be worked on. When I got it back, it was pumping out a little over 500hp. One hell of a machine by the way, if you put a set of 410s out back, it really wakes the car up.

Fun possibly useful fact- the hydraulic lifters are the exact same as VW Golf 8V and 16V lifters.

If you haven't torn into it yet, you should put it on a chassis dyno to get a baseline to compare once you get finished putting in your time getting it back into shape

Doors, rear quarter and rear bumper is unique to ZR-1. the glass is the same as base just the ZR-1 windshield had a coating to compensate for the smaller ac compressor. that looks to already had the windshield replaced the coating has a blue / purple tint color to it.

21:13 gotta get the wheels/tires flipped around so all the wheel faces are the same direction. It had Left and right side wheels and they are mixed up.
