5 More Things That Surprise People After Hip Replacement

If you recently had a hip replacement, or your surgery date is coming up, there are some parts of recovery that can catch you completely off guard.

• Trouble sleeping on your back.
• Lower back pain when you're trying to rest.
• Difficulty getting your swelling under control.
• A limp that sticks around even after the worst of the pain is gone.
• Even the toll recovery can take on the person helping you at home.

In this video, I walk you through 5 MORE things that surprise people after hip replacement surgery and what you can do to make those first few weeks at home easier.

In this video you'll learn:

• Why sleeping on your back after hip replacement can become uncomfortable
• Why your lower back may hurt while you're trying to recover
• Why elevating your legs can be harder than it sounds
• Why your living room furniture may not work well for recovery
• What Zero Gravity positioning does differently from a standard recliner
• Why you may continue limping even as your surgical pain improves
• How old walking patterns can remain after hip replacement
• Why recovery can be exhausting for your spouse or caregiver
• How preparing your recovery area before surgery can make everyday movement easier

One of the biggest things I want you to think about before surgery is where you're actually going to spend your time once you get home.

You're going to be sitting, resting, elevating your legs, getting up for the bathroom, and trying to sleep while your body is recovering. A deep sofa or standard manual recliner may not give you the positioning or independence you expected.

That's why I recommend having a recovery setup that allows you to adjust your back and legs independently without fighting a heavy footrest or sinking into a low cushion.

If your surgery date is already on the calendar, I recommend getting your recovery area set up before your procedure so it's ready when you arrive home.
