Getting up early, I was lucky enough to have the whole sanctuary to myself  for an hour on two consecutive mornings. Stillness, tranquility, just the sound of goats' bells in the distance.  Never felt more in touch with the classical world than there,  knowing how many famous figures from ancient world had found their way to Delphi over the centuries.

The camera doesn’t do the view justice. On a clear day, it’s breathtaking. You really feel like the centre of the world is there

It might be too much work, but occasionally showing a map that shows what part of the site is currently being shown (and from which angle) would go a long way towards making the layout of the ruins more understandable.

Few historians acknowledge it, but the Magic 8-ball was invented here.

I will never forget the half-day I spent in 1999 visiting Delphi.  For me, this is the most fantastic temple and location by far in Greece.

My ship made a port call at Piraeus/Athens in 1979. I went on a ship sponsored tour to Delphi which required a ship's  photographer, me, to go with.  This is one of the most impressive sites I visited. The atmosphere and the ruins blended into perfect photos. The sky in your video was much of what I remember. There are more impressive ruins but these are special in their own way. Thanks for another look see. Shortly after this visit we were called to the Arabian Sea to deal with a certain hostage situation in Iran. The rescue helicopters took off from my ship.

When you see that view, you can see how they would've taken it a spiritual spot !

It's good that you visited Delphi off-season, because this place is usually full of visitors.

I was there a year ago.  You covered it well.  It is truly one of the most beautiful spots in Greece.  What amazed me is how the ancients constructed it, as it sits on the side of a mountain.  The views from the town are spectacular and the drive from Delphi to the Peloponnese is spectacular as well.

Gratias tibi agimus, quod nobis praeclarum Apollinis locum ostendisti.

I wish they would make recreations of the sculptures and at least a few months of the year display them as it once was

Wow imagine how good life was here, no social media - your whole year was scheduled so you were never feeling bored (or alone) and the elite was teaching you: "Nothing to excess" and things like "Know Thyself and Thou will Know The Universe and The Gods" just amazing.

Thanks Garrett. When it comes to Delphi, the Australian expression applies:  Too many visits is never enough.
An incredibly imposing location. The cliffs' presence behind loom so mightily against the yawing valley below one can understand the magnification of reverence it inspired.
I spent two nights and a day and a half there after your Greek tour last October. Unfortunately, the gymnasium and stadium were closed to visitors.  All grey stone today, but it must have been a wonder all decorated in painted stucco, marble and gold, gleaming like jewels in such a physical setting. Cheers.

It looks incredible, how are you the only person there?

The location on a mountain slope make it one of the most picturesque ancient sites in the world. If you walk up on top to where the gymnasium is you can look out over the whole site full of ruined temples and broken columns, with mountain ridges and the tip of the sea in the distance. It really is how you'd expect a romanticized portrayal of ancient Greek ruins in a movie or painting to look like.

“bloodlines being considered, surely need to explore more of Greece, especially the theatre 🇬🇷”

Was there in spring 2019.  I was on a tour of the Peloponnese and each site was more fascinating than the last one.  Delphi was amazing.  If you can go, please do.

"Somehow still numinous..." indeed! I love that adjective.

The green pines were really striking against the stone and the surrounding mountains.  It is a beautiful location.

looks like a classical painting, like history coming to life
