True Story. I was a senior in high school in 1994 and I was required to go see this film and write a reaction paper on it for my senior English class. That class ended up making me a better person and seeing things in different ways. I HATED this film the first time I saw it because I was being required to see it for school. It has ended up being one of my favorites of all time and I have seen this film COUNTLESS times.

A movie doesn't have to win an award to be appreciated by millions for the good story telling.

I can't believe this film is already 30 years old. It has become a modern classic that people will be watching for a very long time to come.

The scenes shot on the roof during the (beer break) were on a nice sunny day.

If you notice, Brooks is never seen behind bars until he gets to the halfway house at 18:05 he's looking through the wooden spirals and those look like bars. For him, being a free man was prison.

I've watched at least 10 or 12 times. Great movie!

One thing I noticed the very first time I saw the film: the word "hope" is the final word spoken in the film, as well as several times leading up to the final moment: "I hope I will find Andy..." I hope the water is as blue as Andy described it..." "I hope."

Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile, both excellent movies that have substantial following ❤

I liked Andy’s passive aggressive mode of survival. The poster on his cell wall. Continuously feeding the warden rope to hang himself with. Passive aggression can be a perfect survival mode.
