May's Currently Inked showcases 9 pens. One of them keeps spilling ink on me ... apparently I keep letting it.
The lineup is heavy on journaling workhorses — the Lamy 2000 is here, the Esterbrook Estie Botanical Gardens with a broad nib, and a few others earning their ink — but two pens have stories worth slowing down for.
First: a Platinum Hakuichi Kanazawa-Haku that came out of a Mystery Box I purchased during an Atlas Stationers Experienced Pen Sale. Brand new. Hand-applied gold leaf. An 18k gold nib. A mountain painted on it. I may or may not have received it because I made one of the owners laugh on the YT stream and followed up with a ridiculous email. The pen is dead serious. How I got it is not.
Second: the Leonardo Momento Magico with a flex fine nib, inked with Robert Oster Central Park Twilight. This pen has now spilled ink into the cap with two different inks. There is video evidence of what happened last time. I said I wouldn't show it. I lied.
And closing out the lineup: the last of the Ku-Jaku, inked in the very pen I first used it in. A small send-off for an ink that earned it.
All of this chaos, for the record, is happening alongside ink measurement, monthly pairing grades, and notes on every pen and ink I live with. The mess is documented. That's the whole point.
